I am not sold this was JA B team. Can someone list the A team? I am not sure we would have a full team outside of the team that played yesterday that could have beaten Canada. If you are going to list Goodison, Gardner, Claude Davis, Johnson, Andy Williams etc no badda because these guys would not make much of a difference and we should not be relying on those players anymore.
I was surprised Marshall played instead of the upcomming player Dicoy Williams.
Cater, I too was trying to figure out the purpose of Marshall. Were we evaluating Marshall as well? Like I told a brethen of mine the other day - Everyone in the world knows what you will get from a Bibbi, Marshall, Goodison, JJ, Stewpeas etc so why would you be "evaluating" the team with Marshall coming in at the expense of a Dicoy Williams, Rafe Wolfe or a Demar Stewart. Marshall is about to "retire" again.

I beleive the inclusion of marshall or any other senior player is a good thing for the developement program. Our young inexperience players can learn from these players how to perform professionaly and also learn from their mistakes. One or two senior players should always be included in these international frendely for 2018 and beyond. Listining to the game commentry i heard Jeffery Maxwell criticize Lution Shelldon before he score the goal that he does a poor job of running on or off the ball and also not knowing when to run into space. A few minutes later sheldon was subsituted, Maxwell began to criticize Tappa for taking out Sheldon because he had scored. In my oppinion Maxwell should not be a commentator he is too negitive of the program of rebuilding. The coach mission is clearly defined, he is looking at all the players and for that reason subsitution ia a part of the process even if a player scores 3 goals in a game, likewise senior experience players. Therefore gents we need to continue the inclusion of senior experience players to enhance the youth developement.
From the what I read in the news articles and what the commentators were saying on radio, Marshall was playing because he is planning on retiring from international football and wanted to go out on a win or at least in a game in Jamaica.

Evaluating new players or not, the results of Jamaica's games are still a very important statistic for Tappa for team confidence and his record as a coach.
He's now won 2, lost 0, drawn 2 and that is a good record by any standard for him and the team.
That record will probably have 1 in the lost column come Feb 10 but its all a learning/development process.
Why would he not use the experienced players available to him in any game ? Its not like Jamaica is in the top tier of the world's football teams who can pick, choose and refuse players who are experienced and available to play !
I think it was a great game to let the future players show what they can do. The defence would be just has good with Taylor, Shavar Thomas as the leader and Dicoy Williams. Marshall has no long term plans for Jamaica he is just using the game to keep in shape for the MLS season. What can a player learn sitting on the bench watching anyway?

In all this developmental stage of rebuilding, if anyone thinks that Tappa is going to throw out 'the baby with the bath water' I think they're sadly mistaken.
Which coach in world football would do that ? Young players are brought in to mix with the experienced players to learn from them and if you look at the team Jamaica picked the other night, 'local' certainly didn't equate to 'inexperienced'!
That was a very experienced team that played Canada made up of predominantly MLS and Norwegian-based professionals. There were only 3 local-based players in the starting line-up.
How come no one's complaining that Decoy Williams didn't start over Jermaine Taylor, who's been around forever!
Why pick on Marshall, who's been rock-solid for Jamaica over the years and is still worth his game. Remember the 6 love Jamaica got from England with a completely new and inexperienced team ?
Tappa is proving that he knows much more about coaching at the international level than many on this site gives him credit for.
No player likes sitting on the bench but how they take it and learn from it is one measure any coach uses to judge how ready they are when he's ready to play them.
If they don't learn while sitting on the bench, they might not even make the squad next time; that's how it really works bredren,
IF THIS IS ABOUT "MENTORING" - MAYBE TAPPA SHOULD SUIT UP AS PLAYER/COACH. WHAT CAN MARSHALL SHOW ALL THESE PLAYERS THAT TAPPA CANNOT? MAYBE THAT IS WHAT WE NEED - TAPPA LEADING THE TROOPS ON THE FIELD. HE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE TO RUN - HE WOULD JUST PROVIDE A "DEFENSE SPLITTING PASS" FOR FULLER, SHELTON, CUMMINGS, RICHARDS AND THE OTHER SPEED DEAMONS......
(1) SO WHO WILL BE THERE TO "MENTOR" THESE PLAYERS IN ARGENTINA?
(2) AT WHAT POINT DO YOU TAKE A 23-24 YEAR OLD "BABY" OFF THE BREAST MILK?
(3) ANDY WILLIAMS IS ALSO IN SEMI-RETIREMENT, I DON'T SEE HIM "MENTORING" ANYONE IN MIDFIELD. HE IS YOUNGER THAN TYRONE MARSHALL.
(4) I DON'T SEE SHAWN SAWYERS OUT THERE "MENTORING" ANYONE AND THAT IS A VERY SENSITIVE POSITION THAT CAN REALLY BREAK THE TEAM.....AT LEAST IN DEFENSE SOMEONE IS THERE TO COVER YOU.....

If Jamaica would have lost with Marshall on the bench.....nuff cussing would get dass Tappa way!!!
Don't worry the "das-weh" Tappa campaign is already in full swing - ask Mr.Geoffery Maxwell........Burrell has also hinted at "performance".......The gillotine is ready to go, so he may as well do it his way.

Coach Whitmore hails locally based Reggae Boyz André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter

National coach Theodore Whitmore was full of praise for his locally based charges after leading his Reggae Boyz to a workmanlike 1-0 victory over Canada in their friendly international clash at the National Stadium on Sunday night.
The likes of Devon Hodges (Rivoli), Navion Boyd (Tivoli) and Jermaine Taylor (St Georges) were some of the more impressive locally based talents. Whitmore is hoping that his cadre of Digicel Premier League (DPL) stars will continue their good form when the Boyz tackle Argentina in their next assignment on February 10 in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Said Whitmore: "It's the start of our 2014 campaign and we wanted to give some new players an opportunity. That is why we pulled out some of the more experienced players towards the end (of the game), because we wanted to see how they (local players) would respond in the game. We have a big game in a short while against Argentina and they will be used, so it's good that they are showing good signs. Now they have to continue."
The former midfield maestro will not be able to call on some of his more experienced overseas-based players for the Argentina friendly due to their commitments with their respective clubs. He is, however, confident that those available will be able to give a good account of themselves and represent the country well.
"Most of our overseas players will not be available, so we will have to use most of our local-based players, but I think they are up for the challenge; it's a big test for them," Whitmore shared. "I have no doubt about the talent here in Jamaica. We wanted to look at a number of players, but it's just a matter of time. Everyone who deserves a chance will get it."
Norwegian-based striker Luton Shelton scored in the 68th minute on Sunday to lead Jamaica over the Canadians in what was the 17th meeting between the two countries and the sixth since 2006.
Whitmore was happy with his team's performance over the 90 minutes and credited it to the hard work they had done in preparation for the encounter.
"It was a spirited performance from both teams but we deserved the win. The boys have been working hard for the last three weeks and we definitely deserved to come out on top," Whitmore said.
Several changes to the squad will be announced shortly, with the players scheduled to reconvene after tomorrow's round of DPL games. They will stage two sessions here at home before departing for Argentina.

Dem know seh dem can pick im up wen dem redy an dash im weh wen dem ready, just like Carl Brown so he might as well build a decent record while im have the chance an see if anything else out there for im wen dem dash im weh again after im bring some cedibility and stability back to the team, same like last time.

Winning start for 2014: Mixed bag from Jamaica's Boyz Published: Saturday | February 6, 2010
Gordon Williams, Gleaner Writer

It was supposed to be a mismatch: out-of-competitive-shape Canada against motivated and more seasoned Jamaica eager to please at 'The Office'. Yet the performance of the Reggae Boyz reflected a mixed bag, despite their 1-0 win. Here's how they fared:
GOALKEEPER:
Overall, Dwayne Miller did not have much to do. But a few testing moments offered an intriguing glimpse of what Donovan Ricketts' main challenger for the top job will offer by the time the Boyz begin their qualifying campaign for World Cup 2014. Early in the match Miller was smartly off his line to punch away a dangerously swerving cross by Canada's Massih Wasseh. Late, with Jamaica hanging on to a lead, he denied Ali Gerba's thunderous strike with a brilliant tip over the crossbar. But Miller bobbled a free kick hit straight at him in the first half in a crowded penalty area. That could have cost Jamaica and is not good enough at this level. GRADE B.
DEFENCE:
Strange to see captain Tyrone Marshall operating on the flank, but this unit, with Shavar Thomas and Jermaine Taylor in the middle and Eric Vernan the other fullback, was not exposed often, except for a few anxious moments against the badgering pace of Gerba and Stephen Ademolu, plus the busy Wasseh. Neither fullback offered much in attack, with Vernan being tested in the physical confrontations. He was later replaced by Kenardo Forbes. Thomas's error led to Miller's second-half save, but overall Canada struggled to penetrate. GRADE B+.
MIDFIELD:
The most puzzling unit of all. Lacked coordination, spark, poise and imagination early. Jason Morrison in the holding role is usually the picture of calm, but he appeared to lack urgency and inspiration. Rodolph Austin and Demar Phillips put in a hard shift, but the quality of passing was lacking all round and the unit, at times, especially in the first half, appeared disjointed. Omar Cummings, rotating between midfield and attack, showed loads of energy, especially against the tiring Canadians. But he too appeared a shade below sharpness, although his tenacity robbed Julian de Guzman of the ball and assisted on the game-winner. Credit him and Phillips with trying to get forward in attack, but Austin's long-range drive which flew high over the crossbar was one of the few shots at goal that came from midfield. Substitutes Navion Boyd, Richard Edwards and Kaemmar Daley injected spark into the second half, but overall a disappointing show. GRADE C.
FORWARDS:
The searing pace of Luton Shelton, especially, worried Canada all night. Devon Hodges shows promise but, like substitute Ryan Johnson, needs more games to truly stake a claim. Again, Cummings operating just off them was busy all evening. But too few shots on goal for Jamaica, despite threatening throughout. The finishing was sub-standard as well. Hodges' shot flew high from close in at a tight angle. Shelton, after speeding his way through a host of defenders, could only hit tamely to goalkeeper David Monslave from close in. But the striker's winner was a well taken powerhouse, which showed some confidence. GRADE C+.
COACHING:
Theodore Whitmore always appears willing to try new things, which is good. But against Canada, he didn't have it just right early. Marshall is always a more effective player in the middle of the park. And despite his relentless efforts, Austin's role needs more refinement. But overall, Jamaica came out in shape and aggression from the start. The second half was better coordinated and sharper by the Boyz. Credit Whitmore for the adjustments. Yet questions remain. Why was the ageing Marshall, still a fine player but still in pre-season with his club, called to play a game described as part of a rebuilding campaign when young defenders like Dicoy Williams - who did not make the final squad - and Adrian Reid have done well recently and need experience? Puzzling. GRADE B.
OVERALL:
A win is always good. To start the year positively makes it better. Jamaica will miss out on World Cup 2010 in South Africa, but last Sunday's performance offered flashes that the country has solid building blocks with which to make a big push for 2014 in Brazil. GRADE B.

International Friendly Match: Jamaica Vs Canada Venue: Played At the National Stadium, Sunday January 31, 2010 – 6pm Weather :Cool ,dry ,no wind Field :Very good condition, grass Playing Systems: Jamaica 3 – 5 -2 ;Canada 4 – 4 – 2 Coaches: Theodore Whitmore – Jamaica and Stephen Hart - Canada Fair sized crowd ; active spectators, score: Jamaica 1( L Shelton 67th minute) Canada- 0
The Start of Building for the Future Campaign
The matchup is between two teams that are in the rebuilding process for their 2014 World Cup Campaign. Both team were playing very cautious from the first whistle. What became pretty obvious from very early was that the Reggae Boyz were actually passing the ball a lot more and were intent on keeping possession as much as possible. After a few minutes feeling out the opponents, the Boyz became more aggressive with every scoring opportunity and as the game progressed began to throw more players up front, even though the more organized Canadians defense were found wanting at times.
The Jamaicans superior speed was demonstrated by the likes of Luton Shelton, Eric Vernan, Demar Phillips and Omar Cummings and proved too much for the Maple Leaf as they tried to nullify the speedsters with organization and patients as well as the occasional counter attack which look dangerous at times and showed the very weak defensive support given by our midfielders. Quite noticeable however was the fact that the three man defense was not man marking as much as they used to in times gone by, while not as alert as they should nor providing adequate covering for their teammates. Semblance of organization was present and need to be improved for tougher assignments.
Our Speed Should Be Our Main Weapon
With us not devising a plan to use our speed and skill to beat the Canadians, it was difficult to determine the teams tactics of if they were in fact trying to use their speed as well as the speed of play to score goals. The gap between our midfield and forwards were the only reason why the score line was not greater than one on the night, the missed opportunities the possession and spark or some good individual skills offers much hope for the team, although we need to move the ball more rapidly around from side to side looking for the moment to make the possession count, our midfielders except for Phillips reacted were far too slow whenever we lost possession, and even more frightening is the fact that our defenders were not explosive and prefered to make the effort to try and win the ball rather than to contain as the first option.
A more efficient use of the field spreading the ball around combined with a few more piercing run from speedsters taking on the Canadian wing backs would be just what the Doctor order even though the first half advantage would have to be given to the home Boyz for possession, showing sign of tiring towards the end of the first half even more than the visitors who were not out done by our possession but held their own through composure and organization.
A cautious Second Half Possession Game
The second half started very lively with the Reggae boyz putting some passes together and showing their intention that a win is what they were here for which was reinforced by the fact that no substitution was made up to this point in the game. The attacking plan was as unclear as it was in the first half, however the continued effort to keep possession of the football was a clear sign of maturity, furthermore keeping the ball safely means that the opponent cannot score on you.
During this very careful period the spectators and some experts were not seeing this side of the equation and while supporting every attacking and skillful display by the Boyz, could feel the very lethargic display. Possession game was not the usual style of the Boyz, the decision not to introduce substitute paid dividends in the 68th minute when Omar Cummings made a blistering run on the visitors backline, beating two and passing to Luton Shelton combined with a poor set position by the Canadian custodian, put Jamaica in the lead to the thundering cheers of the very supportive supporters. The goal gave the coaching staff the courage to introduce substitutes and with a few fresh legs the intensity of the game stepped up a notch as the more home based Boyz and Ryan Johnson who look like a very good prospect add some good touch to the game coupled with the fact that they were leading and the visitors did not look the kind of threat in the second half as much as in the first. Furthermore the upbeat supporters who wanted more goals were in fact cheering them on until the final whistle.
A Win Is a Win but What Next
Having time on our hand is a very nice way to say that things is still not right with our football even at the international level and not just the local competition level, as it is still very evident that our strike force needs a lot of room to be effective and at the higher level that is not going to happen. Their dribbling skills needs to be sharpened if we are to benefit from the speed we are blessed with and this is not a future task.
Using the two acre plot must be discussed at every level of our football as the more inordinate use of lateral movement by our players still add to energy depletion and not necessarily to offensive or defensive support for the team, we must use the system to our advantage for ninety minutes
Defenders have to be trained to be more explosive in getting back the first five yards makes a lot of difference to forward who just need that edge
A greater understanding of the role and importance of the cover defenders as we seek to phase out the man markers out of our football this is necessary for the future
Improvements on the speed of play have to be tackled on a very wide scale if we are to be successful with this venture at the higher level ,we must remember that our opponents are not going to be as slow as our local Boyz
We seem to be coming of age with our warm up, thumbs up on this one. Keep improving.
Our Goal keeping badly needs attention, we have very good shot stoppers but we are very far behind with choosing the right set position, intercepting crosses and through ball, as well as organizing the defense, these are very important roles in modern football we need to catch up with
Again good start but building a good national team is not the same thing as developing football nationally.

What playing system did Jamaica used ? I heard a 4-4-2 from the KLAS Sports Radio Team , A 3-4-3 from some other journalists who were there and it was the playing system Jamaica used versus South Africa on the road . And now this article saying a 3-5-2 , Can someone answer my Question ?? I KNOW FOR A FACT CANADA PLAYED A 4-5-1 Gerba was the lone striker
