Let me be a little more specific.

When the JFF got the coaching situation so completely and unprofessionally wrong for both the 2010 WC qualifiers and the 2009 GC, which both appeared to be Burrell's personal decisions rather than any collective decision, they, for all intents and purposes, brought the advancement that Jamaican football desperately needs to almost a stand-still.

Jamaica cannot afford to make those type of mistakes, being as economically vulnerable a country as it is and a fully focused JFF would not have 'lost sight of the ball' in such a way.

This is where I cite Mr. Burrell and the JFF's major mistakes that lead them to be crying poverty now.

You cannot throw your wallet in the river and then complain to anyone with sense that you have no money so dem fi generous and 'lend u some'.

Right now that is the position that the JFF is reduced to.

Well, Mr. Burrell's "It's Boxhill's fault" Mantra seems to work every time. Pointing the finger at someone else is a great way cover up your faults and never take responsibility. Bruce you paying attention?

as mi say before. Ric must be screwing that Liverpool, the reds are performing badly. If ah nuh dat the money problem in the JFF must be affecting you too... Burrell naw let off nuh more or something..

Nuh mind mi yu hear ric... There was a time when I was alone in bombarding the JFF with disapproval..

There have been a few before me but they all got bored and moved on. I have kept up my stance until man all ah tell mi say Burrell tek mi girl..

But dem nuh understand that its not my girl he needs, its some of my ideas.

I have to say I agree with the green and yellow guy from Manchester. Reddevil. (you are gonna have to change that name to green and yellow devil. At ManU they are all wearing the old time scarves now)

OK to the subject at hand, for years Burrell has let down the Boys. Not just on his second term. It is a cultural thing as Reds suggest. Even on the forum you have to be for or against Burrell.. What madness.

And I dont totally agree with pelepapa but his arguments seem to wake up a few of the ites.

As pelepapa mentions Burrell's manifesto some of us dont realise that Burrell's plan is working.. He is achieving what he wants.

Jamaican Football wont progress any further until we have a dream. Football dont need money. Money follows football if you are good. The development of the football industry needs money. Burrell is not interested in that side of football and neither are the fans, the waggonists or Jamaicans in general.

We dont have a dream, a plan, an aim. A goal.

Burrell went to UWI with a plan. Then with all his businesses he couldn't pay the fee to submit the plans.. Him ah beg freeness.. kissteet.. Him nuh serious bout football development.

Now him vex bcoz the Major say dem fi lock down the stadium.. Wha happen to Jarrett park and trelawny?? Did he think stadium was just going to stand forever??

Burrell ah nuh my friend and if he was i'd still call him a clown. A pure joke him ah run..

Girl comes all the way from Canada fi beg fi play for Jamaica and him turn her away...

It does not matter if the Girl came all the way from Canada, Japan, South Africa, Ocho Rios, Mo Bay or Spanish Town. If JFF can not afford it is the same for ever Jamaican.

JFF couldn't afford it when Simpson, Hall and Burton came. And most of the English contingent paid their own way.

If the JFF cant afford it then why have a female team in the first place??

JFF eyes second Goal Project disbursement
Published: Saturday | May 15, 2010 0 Comments and 0 Reactions Professor Gordon Shirley (right), principal of UWI, Mona campus, showing representation of the football academy to Captain Horace Burrell (centre), president of the Jamaica Football Federation, and Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, minister of culture, youth and sports, two years ago. - File

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is not wasting any time as it looks to secure the additional US$400,000 needed from FIFA's Goal Project to commence work on Phase two its football academy, which is being erected on the campus of the Univer-sity of the West Indies, Mona.

Phase one, which includes the creation of training fields, changing rooms, irrigation system and perimeter fencing, is expected to be completed on schedule before the end of September this year.

The second phase will comprise office space, dormitories, physio-therapy facilities, gyms and parking lots, and will be funded by the second disbursement, which will become available upon the JFF's application on completion of Phase one.

Nothing taken for granted

General secretary of the cash-strapped organisation, Horace Reid, made the disclosure during a recent interview with The Gleaner, outlining that the administration is not taking anything for granted as they look to ensure the continuity of the project, which is now progressing steadily.

Reid pointed out that the JFF is hoping to submit the requisite application documentation long before FIFA's Goal Project approval committee's next meeting in October of this year.

"Our Goal Project committee met and the decision was taken that we will start putting together all the necessary documentation for Goal Project two, so to speak," Reid said. "We need to ensure that we have all the documentation that we need to secure the additional funds that are needed to complete the project on time.

"The approval committee will be meeting in October but we don't want to wait that long, we want to go ahead and start the preparation, so we think that this is the best way to approach it," Reid added.

Meanwhile, the highly respected administrator underlined his confidence in the rate at which work was being carried out on the first phase, hinting that it could be completed slightly ahead of schedule.

"Things are on track ... the members of the Goal Project committee met at their monthly meeting to review the current status of the project and we are all fairly satisfied that things are on target," said Reid. "The first phase was targeted for September but there is a possibility that it may be delivered a few weeks earlier, so we are very happy with how things are going at this point."

Satisfied with project

Interestingly, only recently FIFA's development manager for the Americas region, Gregory Engelbrecht, expressed satisfaction at the state of the project during a recent visit to the island.

The construction of the academy has been a controversial matter for over seven years, after ground was first broken in Portmore, St Catherine, by current JFF president Captain Horace Burrell in 2003.

Burrell was voted out of office shortly afterwards and incoming president Crenston Boxhill abandoned the Portmore site and moved the project to the hills of Malvern, St Elizabeth.

Work on the Malvern site suffered a roadblock even after FIFA had granted the US$400,000 Goal Project funds, and the site was once again relocated in 2007 when Burrell returned to office.

Ground was broken at its present location on the campus of the University of the West Indies, Mona, in January of this year.

Boxjuice's idea to have an academy away from Kingston is not so crazy after all.

Since, the JFF has already spent FIFA money, they should keep on GOAL project in St. Bess a place for youth national teams to train. And keep the one at UWI as a national team training center specifically for the senior team and pre-match camps.

I am not a Boxhill supporter but as a Manchester-man, I always like his idea of establishing a youth national team training facility away for Kingston.

Our young(23 and under) men and women need train in an environment away from the distracts of any major city not just Kingston.

JFF on target - Burrell says Technical Centre will meet Sept deadline

BY SEAN A WILLIAMS Assistant Sports Editor

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Bookmark and Share

JAMAICA Football Federation (JFF) boss Captain Horace Burrell says Phase One of the Technical Centre for football is on target and will be delivered by the proposed September 30 deadline.

Burrell, given a second mandate only a few weeks ago since his return to the helm of the nation's football in 2007, exuded confidence that Goal Project Phase One -- which includes a "first-class" training field, changing rooms, referees' quarters, equipment storage area and temporary security fencing -- will be completed and ready for presentation to the country.

"Having spoken to members of the Goal Project Committee, I am pleased to report that the Goal Project Phase One will be completed on time for September 30.

"Currently, we're installing the irrigation system and this particular phase will be completed by the 6th of September and by the ending of the month the surface will be fully grassed. When ready, it will be comparable to any first-world playing surface," said Burrell.

Also, construction of the changing room facilties appeared in an advance state, plus top soil was being stock-piled for laying out the playing surface when the Observer visited on Tuesday.

"There is a building that will be fully completed in the next two weeks, and this will be the ground floor that will house the changing rooms, referees' room and an equipment room," said the JFF's head honcho.

Sited on a six-and-a-half-acre parcel of land at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, the project is being spearheaded by contractors Tank-Weld Limited and being built with US$400,000 of FIFA Goal Project money.

On Monday, January 26, ground was broken for the project to start shortly thereafter, but was held up for nearly three months as the building plans "went through the meticulous process of approval by the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC)".

"Of course we had some challenges prior to the start where there was a hold-up by the KSAC as you know there has to be a process of approval for building plans and this process took a little longer than we anticipated, but once we got started it has been smooth sailing," Burrell outlined.

The experienced football executive reserved praise for contractors TankWeld and Goal Project Committee chairman retired JDF Chief of Staff Major General John Simmonds and deputy chairman Carvel Stewart for their professionalism and know-how in keeping the project within schedule despite the late start.

"I am very satisfied with the level of professionalism applied by the contractors, the Goal Project Committee members and architect Chris Shaw," noted Burrell, a successful businessman in his own rights.

Other members of the committee are Leighton McKnight, Howard McIntosh, Saleem Lazarus and the Reverend Calvin Baker.

"Also, I would like to thank the UWI principal Professor (Gordon) Shirley and his team for their full support in the first phase," he added.

Just last week, a team from the FIFA Goal Bureau, lead by Gregory Engelbrecht and Daryl Warner, visited Mona and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction.

"Both men expressed total satisfaction with the project thus far and are ready to recommend Phase Two on completion of Phase One," Burrell told the Observer.

When Phase One is completed, it is said that the FIFA president, Joseph 'Sepp' Blatter, will be in Jamaica to inaugurate the facility, but Burrell would not confirm this.

"We are going to spring a surprise and the opening will be something very special; that's all I can say right now," he said.

Phase Two of the ongoing project is expected to have an additional floor to the existing structure and will house an office for the technical staff, a presentation room, a kitchenette and a second playing field.

And as the development continues with the aim of having a total technical training centre, the JFF plans to apply for Phase Three which will have a perimeter wall and flood lights. Phase Four, which is expected to follow closely on the previous one, will consist of dormitories.

"The FIFA works hand in hand with the national associations, so once you complete one phase, they are ready to assist with another," Burrell explained.

Each phase will be developed with the regular FIFA Goal Project grant of US$4000,000, plus external financial assistance.

One has to admire the way burrell is quick to take credit for the vision and work of others.

Imagine if UWI had no interest in football or buidling a complete sports center, where would he and his cronies turn to.

JFF eyeing sale of Malvern property

Sean Williams

Thursday, August 26, 2010

THE JFF is closer to finalising a deal with the Government of Jamaica for the purchase of the shelved FIFA Goal Project in Malvern, St Elizabeth.

JFF president Captain Horace Burrell, on Tuesday confirmed that there "is strong interest" from a department of Government to purchase the property, which was slated for a football academy.

"We're keeping our fingers crossed as a department of Government has demonstrated a keen interest... they (prospective buyer) have already completed the process of due diligence, and we believe that before long we'll be able to dispose of it (Malvern property)," Burrell said.

In a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House yesterday, Education Minister Andrew Holness announced that his ministry intends to take the property off the the hands of the cash-strapped JFF, and outlined his ministry's plan to use it as a time-out facility for problematic students. The special school is expected to be up and running "by January next year".

"We have indentified a new property owned by the JFF, which they were to develop for training purposes, but will no longer be using, so we have engaged them in a purchase arrangement and Cabinet has approved this," Holness said.

With the sale looking certain to happen, this would bring great financial relief to the JFF, which is deep in debt and has had to cut back on its technical programmes and operations to stay afloat.

"We would be extremely relieved as a lot of funds are tied up in that project and we've not been able to retrieve that money. I guess the additional funds that we will get from this sale will be ploughed back into the JFF to assist in so many other areas of operations," noted Burrell, who also serves as senior vice-president of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).

It was unclear up to yesterday what figure the potential purchaser had brought to the table, but speculators think it may be below the original asking price of $45 million.

Back in 2003, ground was first broken for a Football Academy in Portmore, St Catherine, but the location was deemed not conducive to the sport by the new JFF administration led by Crenston Boxhill.

The site was moved to the remote and hilly St Elizabeth community of Malvern, and ground was again broken for a FIFA Goal Project with the standard US$400,000 grant.

That project was not completed and the current JFF placed the property on the open market for sale in 2007.

In its existing form, the Malvern property has three unfinished buildings that were to be used as dorms for the proposed football academy.

Is this the best retort one of Burrell's lackeys can provide surely being on the captain's side should be able to provide you with some insight on the operational matters namely the conditions under which the proposed facility at UWI is being built, financed and ultimately who will be in charge of day to day matters as well as long term decisions on the facility.

Unlike YOU I am however privy to some of the details of this particular venture which is WHY I can state categorically that Burrell is hopping on some one's Wagon. Credit to him he has the intelligence to maneuver his actions to an area where he might be most successful, since we know if it was up to the JFF alone then nothing would get done. The point is that at this particular time it is politically expedient for Burrell to talk the sweet talk and try to jump on as many wagons as he can.Clearly he is no longer the man with the big talk, now he has to sit an hold his corner. I suggest you do the same and shut up as well.

So please do yourself a favour and refrain from uttering garbage like this in the future, it does not bode well for you.
