Ites, as soon as I gave up the Red Devils in the Champions League, they gave me something to renew my faith...at least for now. A victory in Spain (2-0), the first ever for Manchester United, a clean sheet no less. I didn't see the match nor did I have any desire to watch it since I thought it was a farewell match, but Becks and Van may have brought Man U to the semifinal. Will we see Bayern in the finals again??? Not sure I want to but it'll be interesting.

Reds,
I knew that ManU was going to win this match - damn!! I should have posted it before. Anyway expect a better performance from them at Old trafford on the return leg.

Also, I think Real will beat Bayern Munich in the return leg to advance to the finals.

It will be a ManU - Real Madrid finals, I think.

I think Becks will be fine. If there's one place you don't want to go after a malicious foul on their superstar it's England. Deportivo should be afraid...very afraid. I don't promote hooliganism (not even after all the celebratory beverages ), but they asked for it and they shall receive it. I wouldn't want to be a Depor player for the Old Trafford fixture.

Nine, I hope you are right. Double B, I think Real is done. I read an interview with Lizarazu in the French paper L'Equipe and he talked about Bayern's record vs Real lately and it's very impressive, they've now won 6 of the last 7 matches. He recognised that it's different with his freind Zizou now playing there, but is still confident. He dared to talk about Real's "weak" defence that he thought Elber, Pizarro etc could exploit. I think it's Bayern vs and English side. But all the omens are adding up (Man U and Bayern draw twice in the group stage, then Man U go on to win in a country they have never before advanced against) these also happened in 99 the last time we were Champions of Europe. Something to think about...maybe. But I have no problem with Bayern except Lukas just kidding!!!!

True dat nine, but they can't afford to concede a goal. Lizarazu also said that Bayern was quite prepared to "put the team bus in front of the goal." If Bayern scores, it will be hard to get 2 on them.

Press Releases
Reds hoping Beckham returns next week

Manchester United will also be without captain Roy Keane as well as Paul Scholes for at least their next game
England's fearless captain David Beckham.

(posted Apr. 3, 9:20AM EST)
MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson hopes that the ankle injury England captain David Beckham suffered at the end of Tuesday's Champions Cup quarter-final game at Deportivo de La Coruna is not as bad as first thought and he could even make the second leg of the quarter-final.

Beckham was limping as he travelled back from La Coruna after his team's impressive 2-0 victory with his left ankle bandaged.

He was caught by a late tackle from Deportivo striker Diego Tristan in the third minute of injury time. The challenge had the entire United bench off their seats in fury.

Beckham is due to have an X-ray but Ferguson said as the team travelled home on Wednesday that the injury might not be as bad as first thought.

“We will know more later, but he could be back for next week,” the United manager said.

United will certainly lose team captain Roy Keane for three to four weeks after the Irish midfielder suffered a hamstring injury. Paul Scholes collected a yellow card which means he will miss the second leg at Old Trafford next Wednesday.

With Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron also sidelined with Achilles tendon trouble, Ferguson likely will have all four of his regular midfield missing if Beckham doesn't make it.

Veron, who was hurt in Argentina's 2-2 tie with Cameroon last week, has flown to Rome to see a specialist about his injury.

Well it pains to admit but Man U were excellent last night. It could easily have been 5 or 6.
Giggs should have had a hat trick. I mean it was so much of a romp that even , Mr. Over-rated scored (imaging that). Becks Goal was a classic.

I can't believe that that Deportivo side is the same one that ball my side at Highbury the other day. Dam, football is a strange game.!!!!!!!

Trust me, even without Becks, Scholes, Keane and possibly Veron for next weeks return. Man U are already in the semis. I hope Liverpool win too, so that you guys and kill each other in the semi-final while Arsenal are completing the double at home.

Guidance.

Yes SoupBone you had to take a shot at Ruud eh? I heard from another Arsenal fan that the reason they have up Ruud is that Wenger saw him first but Fergie got him first. Good thing too, with him and Henry and Bergkamp the EPL race might already be over!!! You notice though how often he scores when he is playing in a 4-4-2 as opposed to a 4-5-1.

But it's ok, the Gunners don't need Man U and Liverpool to kill each other off, nor do they need Pires anymore to take the EPL title. I too thought Depor was a fantastic side, a favorite to win the Cup too. I don't know what they'll do in midfield, I suppose Giggs, Butt, Beckham central if healthy and Chadwick on the wing, if no Becks then Phil Neville.

Jt, Liverpool has been our achilles heel the last 2 or 3 seasons. I think they can win the whole thing, as Di Canio said they are the most European English side. It would be nice if we could take them though, but we have to put our chances away, that 1-0 at Old Trafford shouldn't have happened and we should've beaten them in the Charity shield match so I feel we have a chance but you'd have to give the edge to Liverpool, they're a side more suited for knockout play than Man U. SoupBone, Fortune would be a good choice I've never seen him in central midfield before though. But if he did well then he should certainly play next week.

Tristan sorry for horror challenge

Deportivo La Coruna striker Diego Tristan has expressed his regret over his reckless tackle on David Beckham, saying: 'I'm so sorry, I lost my head.

The Spanish international lunged in long after the ball had gone, leaving Beckham in a heap and requiring him to be carried off.

Beckham has suffered some swelling to his ankle but he may be back in action next week - and a return Champions League meeting with Tristan.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will confirm how many matches beckham is exopected to miss after an x-ray revealed bad bruising.

Tristan said: 'I'm very sorry about what happened. It all happened very quickly. I'm delighted to hear David is not badly hurt - I admit I thought it would be a lot worse. I have been worried.

'It was just my enthusiasm - a moment when I lost my head. I will say sorry to David when I see him again.'

Liverpool's 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night has set up the enticing possibility of an all-English Champions League semi-final.

Sami Hyypia's goal just before half-time sees the Anfield outfit with the advantage going into next week's second leg in Germany. Should they win through to the last four, and United do the same against Deportivo on Wednesday, it will be Reds against Reds for a place in the Hampden Park final.

Liverpool, like Deportivo, have already beaten United home and away this season. But Gerard Houllier will not relish the prospect of facing United again after the way they dismantled Depor on Tuesday.

The night's other quarter-final first leg ended in a 1-0 win for Panathinaikos against Barcelona in Greece thanks to a Aggelos Basinas penalty. The winners of that tie will face Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the other semi-final.

UEFA Champions League
Results, 3 April 2002

Liverpool 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen
Panathinaikos 1-0 Barcelona

Apologies won't cut it with the Old Trafford faithful. Tristan is in trouble. As for Liverpool, the article nine posted says it best, Depor beat Man U twice too so anything can happen.

It's over now 3-2 in the return leg to Man U. Deportivo has again shown a lack of class injuring Beckham again, this time they had 2 red cards, Gunnar and Giggs the scorers for the devils, Blanc (og) and Djalminha for the outgoing Spandiards.

reds it looks like beckham's injury is a season end in the champions, world cup looks bleek, two reckless tackles that only saw yellow!what a sin!!scaloni got the the deal, dusher xmas ended in the 75th minute.

beckham limped off after a rough tackle from aldo pedro duscher in the 17 minute of play beckham sustained a broken metatarsis bone in his foot that will take 6-8 weeks, and with world cup 7&half weeks away Englands hopes are way up in the air.
