i already forfeited the away match to mexico, but i was not sure about the honduras match...
playing mexico away, strengthens our chances in getting a win away to honduras! Since honduras and mexico are central american teams per se, facing mexico will strengthen our chances of beating honduras away
so...we are not giving up home advantage, actually we have gained a stronger opportunity to qualify with 3 matches home.

Reggae Boyz-Mexico clash switched to the Azteca published: Tuesday | September 2, 2008
Jermaine Lannaman, Gleaner Writer
Captain Horace Burrell
The World Cup qualifying match between Jamaica and Mexico, which was originally scheduled for the National Stadium on Saturday, has been switched to the Azteca Stadium in Mexico, due to the prevailing effects of Gustav, the tropical storm which has now developed into a hurricane.
Instead, both teams, which will be contesting their second match of the semi-final round of the play-offs, will now see the return encounter being played at the National Stadium on Saturday, October 11.
"The damage done to the playing surface at the National Stadium from the severe flooding caused by the heavy and persistent rainfall has rendered the field almost unplayable. In fact, it would take at least a month to be properly restored," said Captain Horace Burrell, president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).
Necessary changes
"As such, the authorities are far from being confident on having the venue ready for the game," he explained.
According to Burrell, the change of venue was effected after consultation with the Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Olivia Grange, FIFA vice-president, Austin 'Jack' Warner, FIFA officer, Jerome Champaignie and the Mexican Football Federation.
He said the changes were necessary as "Gustav had caused significant devastation to the infrastructure of the country", and it "would prove extremely challenging for the country, at this time, to host an international match.
Postponement
"We asked FIFA for a postponement for at least a 30-day period. FIFA understood and offered their condolences to persons who have lost their lives. They also contacted the Mexicans regarding hosting us in Mexico on Saturday, and to playing the return leg in Jamaica. They agreed. A move which we are grateful for," he explained.
Burrell added: "We are very busy now trying to make final arrangements regarding flights, hotel accommodations, trans-portation and all the other logisticalconsiderations for the team to depart the island on Friday. We must say thanks again to the government who have come to our support, and who we are hopeful will be able to give some urgent assistance that will allow us to honour our away fixture."
Meanwhile, according to Rene Simoes, coach of the Reggae Boyz, he does not expect the change in dates to significantly affect the team, albeit he has not held discussions with the players as yet.
"I cannot say how it will affect us as yet. We will have to meet with the players and hear how they feel about the situation. However, personally, for me, it is not a factor," said Simoes. "I would have preferred the match to have (been) played here as we were prepared for it. But we have to face the situation and deal with it accordingly."
Simoes, who also expressed comfort with the fact that the team would fly in on Friday and play the match on Saturday at the high-altitude Azteca, also explained that with the change of venue, the pressure was now more on the Mexicans.
"Before it (the pressure) was on us, but now the pressure is now on them, as to qualify a team cannot lose points at home," he said.
Most of the overseas-based Jamaican players, Shavar Thomas, Tyrone Marshall, Ricardo Gardner, Ian Goodison, Ricardo Fuller, Deon Burton, Rudolph Austin, Luton Shelton and Demar Phillips, arrived in the island between Sunday and yesterday.
Andrew Williams and Wolry Wolfe are slated to arrive tomorrow.

How so? Yes they are supposedly both Central American teams but one plays at 7,300 ft above sea level and another one in a place hotter than Kingston. Two different environments, two different but top teams teams in 2 different situations (Mexico leads the group Honduras will be desperate to get a win if they don´t beat Canada). Add the travel factor in there as well.

Mi surprise it took so long for someoen to post the obvious...all we really need to do is to pick up 2-3 points in the next two games and then win at home....by then one of the 3 teams will be out so we will have an easier game. - our players will be gelling as a team. It seems to me that Simoes may have bought himself sometime. The only other option was to play the game in the US on the east coast - ticket logistics would be a nightmare.

I would prefer we head to Guatemala city ASAP and play a club side or as you suggest their U23, if possible. Then fly in to Mexico City Saturday morning.
Given the circumstances, CONCACAF/FIFA should really help us with the additional costs.

put me on your buddy list I will be more than happy to do the same .
The Reggae Boyz are expected to arrive in Mexico on Friday for Saturday's game and Captain Burrell thinks the timing is just perfect.
"Arrangements are now being made for us to leave as a group on Friday. Getting there the day before is the best option. In other words, so don't get affected by the rarified air which normally affects you after 48 hours. It will not be a factor," he said confidently.

my reasoning is, since Mexico is the stronger of the two, and the style of play is extremely similar, we get to learn about our pitfalls against such a team. So I'm thinking, facing Mexico would make us more capable to fill holes that mexico will show up, strengthening our chances against Honduras...
bless..

No time? Then we really screwed!!! FIFA was quick and we need to be quick as well, I think if the team is together for the most part the only excuse is that there are no flights available which I doubt very much. Plenty players already in the USA and can fly down....but I suppose the JFF´s poor financial position is what will cost us this time.

Agreed if the conditions were the same. But when your nose is bleeding and you have no oxygen and have tonnes of problems concentrating you´ll make mistakes you won´t in other conditions. So I doubt there will be much to learn from and take to Honduras as many problems we will have on Sunday are not so much football related.

The sched change definately helps Mexico and JA. Assuming we lose in Mexico, but keep the score respectful (being realistic and hoping) and Mexico in turn beats Canada in thier next game (also at home) they would only need a draw against us in Kingston to qualify and may play that way to secure the draw. Jamaica gets a break also as they will have thier last 3 games at home, and if they pick up a road point in the next 2 games may only need 2 wins and a draw at home to go through. If Canada does not beat Honduras and Mexico at home, stick a fork in them, they are done. I cant see them beating Honduras (may draw) away as by that point Honduras may be desparate for a win (especially if we draw next week). Jamaica/Canada/Honduras will take points off each other - no doubt - just a matter of where they drop the points. By the time we play either Canada or Honduras on match day 5 and 6, its quite possbile that either one would have been virtually eliminated (hopefully Honduras - not disrespecting them, just working the numbers) and would not be at full strength. If it comes down to Canada and JA fighting for the last spot with us at home on match day 6, then I like our chances.
Having said all this, I am sure Hond and Canada can make the same point and if Mexico does not pick up all six points in their next two games...I guess thats why the games are actually played.

More motivation for us when they come to the office. We will beat them in the office this year (if our striker is back).
Also be thankful we have Burrell who can pull of arrangements at short notice. Boxhill would have us teking taxi to the game.
A weh Burrell did deh when dem a negotiate di H.View game???It look like dem neva gi View dah option deh or Horseface Reid choose di wrong one. This will turn out to be better in our favour. As this gives us a better chance for our topo players missing from this game to be included for that game.
It is unfornunate that nature made us of to play Mexico so soon but it is no big deal we had to play there anyway. The game plan is the 4-5-1 formation we can come away with a draw or keep down the goal's agaisnt or even surprise them 1-0. Simoes will at least know where is squad is going into the home games if we are in a must win situation.
Jamaica should play their best in Mexico. Counter attack to get the mexican defenders out of place and defend and be cautious of wat is going on. Pavel Pardo might take 1 of his long range shots.
Most Importantly
Cut down the number of high balls coming into the box cause Borgetti will out jump you.

Why are we going into the game as if losing is the only option? We went to Mexico with an amateur team before and they barely eked out a 2-1 victory over us.
Honduras and Costa Rica along with the USA have played Mexico tough at home before and so have we so why the fright factor now? If you want to be rated among the best you have to be ready for the twists in life as they come.
How some people a move like a coward so and all a send out negative thoughts into the atmosphere. Dem no know say as a man thinketh so is he and its not what is right but what you believe so why not think positive?(what is wrong with these people?)
Deon Burton missed sitters and Lowe dash weh penalty a Mexico before and that was when we weren't "conditioned" but now we have professionals who are conditioned and ready to "run" so lets find out what works to our advantage and make it happen.
The "b!tch ball" nah go make it so all Simoes have to do is come up with a plan and execute it.
How we a move like coward so? A so mi know why nuff man never like the Pearl as dem couldn't relate to his "no guy no more dan me" mentality.
No wonder Simoes say that him no see another Lowe or Pearl. The reason is that as a people we no like confident and self assured people and as soon as we rear our heads dem try fi tek it off. Like a fi we fault dem no believe inna self.
Rise Rasta youths rise!!! and tek it to dem!!! Who dem? nobody no know dem!!!
Jamaica 2 Mexico 0 Fi wi time now!!! Bolt done set it off so make we keep the momentum going. Time fi send the message loud and clear
