FIFA has determined that the Group B World Cup encounter between Jamaica and Mexico will be played this Saturday in Mexico City instead of at the National Stadium. JamaicaWin.com was informed that the decision was taken in a conference call between the FIFA Stadiums review Commission and the Jamaica and Mexico Football Federations. President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell confirmed the change.
The condition of the pitch at the local venue, which was under repair, has reportedly deteriorated with the passage of tropical storm Gustav.
FIFA looked at the following options before making its decision:
1- That the game be played at a neutral venue
2- That the game be played on a different date
3- That the fixtures are reversed, with Jamaica playing Mexico in Mexico City this Saturday and Mexico returning to Jamaica on October 11.
The first two options were difficult to meet as Jamaica would not cede their home advantage and the logistics of playing on a non-official FIFA date would not suit the coaches. They would have access to the players for 48 hours instead of the 72 on official match days.
Therefore the most popular option was for Jamaica to play away this Saturday and host Mexico later.
Jamaica held Canada to a 1-1 tie while Mexico beat Honduras 2-1 in the first set of games played on August 20.

Only last week, regional body CONCACAF cancelled a CONCACAF Champions League game between Harbour View and Mexican club Pumas FC on the back of news of the passage of Gustav. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday night, but was later rescheduled for Friday. It was later cancelled, forcing Harbour View to play the deciding game in Mexico.
I have been watching this development all last week and I know that some (powerful) people were trying to get the National Stadium banned because of the damage that was done during the Emancipation Day celebrations. Anyway, you guys failed to see the writing on the wall when Harbourview's game was pulled.You have to know the rules people-emotions do not run things, rules do. You have to know them so you can bend them-in your favour.We snatched it from Bahamas......Mexico snatched it away from us.

Same old Stylo and naw change
I guess it balances out...we have Honduras and Mexico on the road now but we have back to back home games against them in October. I hope they get a camp set up in Guatemala right now!!! And as the Hondurans did get a 60 minute practice game behind closed doors prior to battling Mexico til the end.
This got a good and a bad to it. The bad is that we play too strong sides on the road in the span of 6 days.If we come out of these too games with a draw or too am happy, with a win am going on vacation, St Thomas here i come.The good side of it is that we'll have 3 home games back to back to back. We just need to get through Mexico, and Honduras with heather 2 draws or a win, no matter what we most come away with at lease 1 point
How will the travel arrangement go? The airports in Florida are backed up with the expected Tropical Storm Hanna. The players that just arrived in the island will have to fly back out to Miami to get on a connecting flight to Mexico City.

This is total madness. For a game that is going to be played in a couple days, the team should have been well on their way to camp out in Mexico city and get acclimated to the altitude. I'm being very optimistic, but with hurricane Hanna on the move towards Florida there could be some logistical difficulties. Ites, don't be surprised if the team reach Mexico city Friday evening. My stress level is going through the roof. steeups!

If not Mexico City, Quetzaltenango or Guatemala City and arrange a match with a club team or a club´s U23 team. This dependence on the USA for everything is foolishness. Like Lincoln seh what about the charter flight to Mexico or to Guatemala then to Mexico???? Air J have some A 320 and A340 plane chillin´at NMIA so what´s up? Or are we not serious?

If Harbour View travel plans were depart the island for Mexico on Wednesday, September 3 for the game, play on Thursday and return on Sunday, September 7, 2008.
At this late notice we should travel on Friday to minimize the effects and play on Saturday evening then travel on to Honduras.
