We have moved on to our next forum project – Adopt-A-School. The first school chosen has been McGrath High School in St. Catherine. We approached a few schools in the area and they were the most receptive to the donations. A letter of intent has been faxed to the principal who has in turn informed the school Chairman. Basic training equipment (a dozen footballs, 16 cones, and a ball carrier (USD$125) were sent down to Jamaica last week). Unfortunately, the Fund is very low and additional equipment was not able to be purchased. Personally, I would like to see the donations include practice gear (t-shirts and shorts). Pepsi is the official sponsor for Schoolboy Football, providing shoes, etc. I am awaiting word from our Ja ‘Ites to let us know exactly what the sponsorship involves. Please note we are NOT sponsoring a school, but merely making a donation to their programme.
The vision for the Forum is to get involved with the YOUTH (6-12). We believe soccer clinics/camps can be run effectively and be invaluable to the development of the sport in the country. The worst that can happen is the kids will be fitter and we will have disciplined kids who understand the fundamentals and principles of being an all-round athlete. For those doubting Thomases and Thomasinas who are crying out and saying “we cyan’ do this, an’ it naw go happen” thanks for your words. But the rest who have so eloquently stated in several posts that the kids are the focus please join us in seeing this a reality.
What is very much needed is training/coaching aids. If anyone has any tapes, books, etc. Please we can collect them and donate to the schools. I await questions, comments, etc.

The members on this forum have again shown that they are not all talk but are people of action and proving these small contributions to schools in Jamaica is a positive move in the right direction and is very much appreciated by the young players.
We would like to provide tapes, balls and training materials that will help coaches to teach the fundamentals of the game, encourage proper nutrition and diets and to provide the kids with an avenue to become better players.
I would like to say thanks to Princess for the determination and hard work that was put into moving this project forward and I am also appealing to the members of the forum who would like to help in any small way to contact princess at the following email address: princess@thereggaeboyz.com

providing equipment is a good idea and start but I am not sure if throwing epuipment will do much development...
Why were the other schools not receptive to our handouts... I cant believe they are taking the stance that charity begins at home..

I am not sure I understand "throwing" equipment. The idea to adopt-a-school was presented as one of the projects, as was Jah B's team (still waiting on the info!) and working with kids. Unfortunately, very few donated very little and so we are unable to officially sponsor a team, that is provide ongoing "financial support" where needed. In every interview I have read by our players abroad, the same statement is being made, "not enough footballs" for the youth. So i thought the whole idea was to assist in whatever way we can.
Why weren't the other schools receptive? Their response to the offer of DONATIONS was , "What the people dem in America want?" And I guess since they wouldn't do anything for FREE coupled with our current mentality in Jamaica, it is only natural for them to be skeptical. If there is any other project that the 'Ites feel should be started then by all means speak up.

Jt, I would understand the idea of "throwing the equipment" if what Princess is thinking of doing is to simply go to a Parish council and hand over equipment to them in hopes of them getting these equipment to area schools, but that is not what she said.
She actually has a school and as well made contacts whereby the equipment can be distributed. This is remarkable on Princess's part Jt, and she should be commended for her hard work here. I do not know of anyone on this forum who has/is going this far to help our youths. We must stand behind this a 100% and encourage Princess to continue.
The fact that our players she had contacted commented about the lack of balls in JA, is proof enough that this distribution of balls and other equiptment is right on track.
All 'Ites needs to jump inna dis financially and big up Princess.....

Thanks for the "big-up" but that's not what this is about. this is a TEAM project. My goal is to get everyone involved. However, not everyone has the time, so I understand. I believe I understand what JT means by this not really assisting in the development. Surely, it would be great to have weekly football clinics where the kids learned the fundamentals skills of the game. Where certified and good youth coaches can teach the kids properly. I'm not big on Tournaments, etc. However, that will take time. Many schools don't have the basic tools to train accordingly. Football unlike may other sports requires the minimal amount of equipment a ball and a flat surface. I noted a few months ago that I was 100% committed to work on any project and I stand by my promise.

Respect Princess. I am still waiting for the info from back home. From what I understand, there has been a name change and a different coach.
JT, ideally things such as training manuals and videos would probably produce longer lasting benefits, but the equipment is the most pressing need at the moment.

Princess, we are giving no 'ites any excuse, they have time to make a contribution. They do not have to fly to JA and a make the presentation, nor is it an arm and a leg that is to be contributed.
Whey man like Saltman, Tman, Chez, terminator, Db etc. deh? come in all 'ites and mek we do this; Princees sey anno "bigs ups" needed but your support.....

Gwane shine PRINCESS........I for one was pushing the balls project. I made a contribution at the time of the 'forum award project', but is xcited to contribute again. Not saying this to be noticed but just to encourage everyone to participate. One, one coca full basket.....in any case lets put a few dallazs wey we mout is, in the end that will be a lot more valuable than all our praises/criticisms. Princess I'll link u via email lata 2day. Respect Princess and all the other forum members who have a genuine interest in getting things done back home.
I appreciate the effort that is being made (particularly with this current project) and will support it financially but I have some concerns about the strategy that we are undertaking:
1. Have we decided that we are just going to collect as much money as possible on a project to project basis instead of being a little more organized?
2. What progress is being made with the registration of thereggaeboyz.com as a legal entity with established bank accounts where membership fees can be collected and use to offset the project costs.
3. What about the letter seeking sponsership from companies for our many projects?
4. What about the web page advertisement idea?
5. What about the idea of forming different reggaeboyz groups in diffrent countries (or states) and arranging fund raising events.
I know that it takes time to get these things done but we are not very organized if we can't at least form an assoiciation.

I do remember this idea being an idea long ago... I was not sure about it then either.
But H.I. your tone seems to suggest that I am condemning Princess's efforts when if U read my post U will see I only extended my right to express my opinion.
But then bcoz I know Princess knows she has my vote I think it best to direct U to her reply to my original opinions and concerns.

Jagga, you are the man that arranged the paypal system first time, we can do it again. Why don't you communicate with Princess and make some arrangements as you have done before; and I think she has some more info. you would need.........
Db, I like some of your ideas, but here are some words of wisdom:
It's best for now that we deal with what we presently can handly and make contributions by a project to project basis. We are just getting started, we have successfully completed one project and that gave some us some confidence. Therefore we build from that. I think members would be reluctant to extend themselves more than what they are committed to right now.
The operative word is 'build'; let's do this project and then another and let the chips fall in place.
You've mentioned sponsorship from companies, I think Princess have some info. on that.
Jt, I wasn't saying you were condemning princess'ideas, cause I know you would not do that.
I missed your take on "throwing equipment"; you were saying providing the equiptment won't do much for development. Since I know what you mean now then I'll address that.
Jt, development begins with the individual, and at the very least the individual have to have the equipment before he/she can consider anything else. If players from the NPL said ther's a lack of Balls in the country we need to do something, and that is a part of development in the initial sense.
I would like to see every youth in JA that love football to have a personal ball before the next cup 2006.....

The Paypal system is always available. Most of you probably bookmark the Forum page and miss it. The Home Page has the link to the Football Charity Fund. There are about 3 links to the paypal system on the next page. Donations, etc. For the time being until things are formally structured (DoubleB it is in the process) this is the safest way. The account cannot be open until we receive official notice.

not a bad idea but ask the Disney/Everglades chapter it nu easy fi work out the logistics. if its jus 2 people like the Princess-Jagga crew u will get nuff more tings done and faster. maybe the Toronto crew will get it done if dem give it a try, nuff serious youth on deh can put a quorum together consistently.
Incorporating a charity seems to be the way to go and maybe dats wat papa J a deal wid.
The donations will pour in as soon as wi get a likkle exposure. wi cant depend on J an Ms P passing roun di hat an pull in only a lunch money, our dream is Bigger dan dat nu true.

My fear is that there are folks who badmin' and spiteful (YES!) and if everything is made public before it gets off the ground it may foil our chances of being effective in our goals. A lot of prayer (and thought) has gone into everything that we are doing. I just can't deal with the "talk" from most of you. I have updated many of you directly who showed somewhat of an interest. It's not about the $$, as someone said, it's management and organization. I know that if we "ask" members what you think about this and how you feel about that -- we would crash Jagga poor server with conversations and still nothing would get done. I would prefer a select few (volunteers for now!) to work together in moving forward. I know we have accountants, lawyers, etc., with a wealth of knowledge. I have printed copy (exhibit A) of 'Ites offering all kind of assistance and other hard copy of threads with 1 million and 1 ideas (exhibit B)! As we are still a “grassroots” operation, it seemed logical to work on smaller, less expensive and complicated projects until we officially launch. However, if that is not a sensible approach then let me know. Please e-mail me at Princess@TheReggaeboyz.com. It is easier to go to a potential sponsor with a list of projects already completed and self-supported than to start begging and we haven’t shown them what we have done ourselves. I have ball manufacturers, equipment distributors, health professionals (!), college coaches all lined up.
Yes, I have recruited a friend who is a respected Orthopedic Surgeon to speak to a group of athletes on Sports Physiology, etc. He is also a football fanatic! There is so much going on behind the scenes but I was afraid of the back & forth arguments. I log (Exhibit C) the number of posts (and time of day) some of you make and hope that when called upon you can offer at least 1/10 of that time!
So unnu please jus’ hol’ on likkle, tings a gwan and everyone’ going to get a chance to participate! You know I was thinking this site has been up and running for a few years, what accomplishments have been listed? Some of us are like the Israelites, always bickering, ungrateful and complaining, no matter what God did do for them. The only time people even call on Jagga is to complain that the server down. I believe our mission going forward IS the development of football in Jamaica. I believe we have the resources amongst our members (Germans, Scots, English, Trinis, Italians, Brazilians, et al) to make a significant impact in Jamaica. I am excited about the prospects, just as eager to see things moving and being patient as we cannot “be anxious about anything” (Phillipians 4:6)
