All of the Ites on this forum should get a full report. Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I saw. I watched this game very closely I was looking at the big picture.
Here is my two cents regarding this game. First of all thanks for the link my youth, it was wicked. iman see the game clear and everything right. I must also mention the commentating was first class, even the referee was very respectful of our players and treated our players like they would treat England or Brazil, nuff respect, and we got all the calls that we deserved. I mean I have never seen this from a Central American ref before, especially when we play against a team of mostly white players. I can only attribute this to the world class dominance by Bolt and the Jamaican athletes in China, people all over the world has started to look at Jamaicans with a different set of eyes now. We are now exposed for the great people we really are. It was refreshing to see the respect and fair treatment for once.
Jamaica is a good team. Canada is a good team. Jamaica could have won, and at the same time could have lost this game. I think we should have scored first. We let Canada grab the momentum first thing into the 2nd half. We allowed them to get near our box and some how Deguzman got the ball going towards our goal; he took a wicked left foot shot from just outside the 18 between 2 Jamaican defenders and beat Rickets going against the grain to the far post a very low and hard shot. The youth DeGuzman is the real thing! Him controlled the game fi Canada all day long. I see nuff man ah talk bout who fi bring on and tek off. The truth is, the coach picked and played the right midfield for this game. Only two words should describe Jamaica Middle. WORK RATE!! It was most definitely there all day long. As much as Deguzman was having a good game, our midfielders kept him under control for most the game. That was nice to see.
Jamaica gained some confidence after they scored and started to play some really good soccer, even the commentators said wow Jamaica has the momentum now and more confidence. The ball was moving from side to side, we got forward very easily and crosses are coming into the box in very dangerous areas, but playing with 1 striker was not conducive to that type of attack. We pressed them for a very good spell, and kept up te preasure, until Andy scored a wicked corner kick. The ball swerved outward towards the penalty spot and then took a wicked turn towards the near post and caught the goalie diving out while the ball was going in. He tried to put up is off hand but the ball was too well struck, he knocked his and away and went in, with Ian Goodison jumping over top of the goalie following it in the back of the net very closely. The youth that played for Marshall, is a good player him just young and need more games under his belt. He even looked a little like Marshall on the ball too. The defense never gave Canada anything easy, Canada had to work hard for everything they got and even when they go a chance, we were there to challenge it. That again was nice to see. Inexperience is the other word I would use to describe them also, but competent for sure once they start to believe in themselves. There were lots of moments when we played it too safe. I think that’s a direct result of us being inexperience and follows the coach’s directions almost to a fault sometimes. Only an experience player would know in certain games and situations when to break the rules and when not to, so a young player would error on the side of caution, which is the right thing to do under the circumstances.
Overall game rating from 1 to 10, is 6! Jamaica clearly went on the road with one mindset and that’s to play very conservative and come away with a draw if necessary. That’s exactly what happened. The team lacked some leadership in the midfield when Andy came off. Subsequently the Canadians got control of the middle and that’s when man of the match in my opinion, had to came up big for us. Rickets! This guy put on one of the best goal keeping jobs I have seen from a Jamaican goalie since Barrett against the US in DC. This kind result boads well for Semoes and Jamaica. I would not read too much into this game for the simple fact that we were never out of this game by any means, and we even could have won, even with the inexperience, very conservative play and some big mental let downs. Just remember; THIS IS NOT OUR BEST TEAM! In my book. We came away with more than just a tie. Jamaica gained more from this game than if we would have used the same team that played to first round. Remember we played a full strength Elsalvador, and a full strength Canada with 90% home grown stock. This is a signal that is bad for the rest of the teams in the group. The younger inexperienced talent in Jamaica is getting their lessons and coming on, while the really good ones are waiting and watching until the right time, just watch the line up against Mexico in Kingston.
Just notice this, this team can stand to get better and better. Thats exactly what is happening right in front of our very eyes. I am satisfied with this result and feel this team have allot to work on, and with going forward. When we add; Fuller, Marshall, bring Bibi out of the back 4, and put him in the middle and start Shelton and hue, we will done the place like Bolt!
This is my match report. Can vs JA. Jamaica came away with a half goal lead. 1 away goal. Peace out.

I hope he plays a full 90 mins vs Mexico. He showed a few signs tonight. Only if he started. But simoes made the right changes just wished Jerry Hue came on earlier

Good peace. Every thing you wrote was dead on. This game was a win for us simple because we came away with a point not using our full squad.this team is gonna be a beast

Good post, shows understanding of football. Too many on here seem to want to tear down certain players for no apparent reason.

Good report, i think it covers most of what i saw.
I must say though that i was a little worried when the side was originally slected.I am much more relaxed now.
I would also like to say power to Rene Simoes for taking such an unexpected and risky dicission as it relates to the squad selection.

Well i expected a 2 love win still. We got 2 goals in the game, but it shared, oh well...good enough for me!
What I found most interesting is the posturing by Simoes. He took out 2 midfielders and added 2 forwards, and it almost paid off. If Luton carried his run and not try to cut back thru two defenders, we would have had him and Cummings against one defender.
So essentially, Simoes looked for the win in the dieing moment, telling me that he has full confidence in the backline and the defensive mids in the game.
I think he wanted to get Hue on earlier, but we felt pressure after the introduction of Cummings, so he had to make the team adjust first. Alas they took longer than expected, so the delay.
I am pretty impressed with this Woodbine yute, Phillips did not play his usual game but did well, and I think King would have done a slightly better job than Burton, however Burton was coy and thornic. Austin was off his game, incidentally, why di hell Andy nuh allow di man fi BOMB IT! CHO! we are not utilizing his gifts!
Man of the Match Ricketts, played superbly, I think this staying and working in Jamaica, has helped his game tremendously, he is now confident in the air, he made some silly mistakes that could have cost us, but he also made some brilliant saves that kept us in.
Bless...

Good point on the road.
Sounds like we almost did a 'smash and grab' at that too.
Bold moves by Simoes. He does have a lot more to work with than in '98.
Pressure now on Canada and Honduras. Game on vs Mexico in Kgn., should be a cracker. We need that first home win. A must!!!

I never really mentioned Gardener, Burton and Goodison. The three most experienced players on the team.
Gardner:
He looks real fit and in control, don’t think he is too keen on playing left back. You can see him trying to play the system the coach is asking him to play, which is very conservative. However you can also see him edging forward almost always. He needs to be placed in the midfield so he will not have to worry too much about defensive assignments. He did an OK job as the captain. He could have had a bigger impact on the game than he did, but I feel he was setting the example by being disciplined in his positioning and shape.
Goodison:
This guy in my book played like a 25 year old, even though he is 35, he was the only experienced player that made his experience work for him as an asset. He was talking and keeping things tight back there. His passes were accurate and consistent all day. He seemed to be in the right place at the right time always. He deserves his place on that defense for sure.
Burton:
He was very work man like and had some good first touches. He never really posed an attacking threat to the Canadians; however he played the single striker role correctly by holding up the ball and keeping possession, by making good passes back to his midfielders. He made timely runs and caused the Canadian defense some discomfort and disrupted their passing organization in the back all day.
As for Canada really, they are not all that bad, they have some talent as well, but the type of soccer they are playing now will not get them through playing like that. They cannot continue to rely on 4 guys all game long, they need more talent. DeRosario, DeGuzman, Hutchinson, and Razinski, that’s all they have, the rest of the players are average MLS level players. They can do a thing with this squad if they really get rolling, but I don’t think the talent level they have is enough to put them over the top, they need at least 2 more good talent to add to their mix. The ones they have are not it.
Jamaica when it comes to talent and ability has that in abundance. The problem it seems at times is the inability to come together as a unit and pick the right combination of players on a consistent enough basis. I noticed a certain positive trend in the squad this go around. It seems like one after another really good talented player keeps coming out of the woodwork. I still say they are not prepared well enough for the level of competition we are going to see going forward. We need some quality friendlys now, if the Canada game had one lesson, its that if these young players had at least 3 quality friendlys under their belt they would have done even better that what we saw. And boy was it promising; no one is taking us lightly anymore; this is exactly why I wanted us to win this first game, because before now, they thought we were really at the level that our FIFA rankings say. I think we will see better soccer from Jamaica going forward, as a result of having the confidence and the big game experience now. It’s a certain mind set that winning teams have, and I see Jamaica growing in this department. You heard it here first. Jamaica will beat Mexico in the Office coming up!
WATCH!!
I have been trying to tell people that Mexico is not the big bad wolf everyone think they are anymore, they are still very good, however teams like Jamaica are way better than allot of people think. I think when this team comes together and its happening slowly but surely. No team in CONCACAF can beat us; Semoes is really building a powerhouse team, and mentality. If the foreign contingent sees how well we are playing now without them, this sends a signal that they will have to play at even a higher level than before to make this team. This is a good sign for JA.
The way I see this team, if we play our cards right and we get the right players to come play and get the understanding of system that Semoes is teaching, we have the chance to be undefeated in this thing really. I know this will cause allot of backlash and arguments from some; but I know what I am talking about. Go back and see my prediction for this game. I had Jamaica winning 2-0, but that will be the last game in Kingston, instead.
Watch the ride!! Reggaebolt Country! Peace out!

Good report
The Africans are rising as the shift has already taken place and we are back to the days of Kemet.
I agree with most of the report and as oppinionated as Shatta is reserve the right to critique Simoes use of his subs as I thought he waited too long to bring in Shelton or to blunt Canada's momentum.
I also thought that there are more hungrier and deadlier forwards than burton(Lowe and Teofore Bennet) who deserve a shot and in fact would have put in Shelton earlier to use his pace to trouble the Canada backline and make them play more honest
we were waaaaaay too tenative at times. We need to start using our attributes to our advantage and one of them is speed MAKE IT WORK FOR US!!! too much long passes from the back, its time we learn to spring our forwards one v one on the way to goal
there I said my piece
No Lowe, No Goals who else holds up the ball better than him and puts away half and quarter chances like its nothing
can you imagine Lowe having Hue feeding him passes and playing off Shelton?
continue doing those knee lift Lowe your time is coming as we need your WARRIOR spirit for Honduras
we need someone like you for the youngsters to feed off much like the track and field sprinters are feeding off the LION(leo) Bolt
IN case anyone missed it ITs the FIRE signs that are on fire right now (Aries, Saggittarus and Leo) we a move 2 to dem one right now and if you think a like pay attention to the caribbean women them who share those signs.
They are waaaaay ahead of the game. Right now Bolt wallbangers a done the place(shhhh)

Nuff Thanks for andrewyellow for the match download
That is one of the best tactical games I've seen Jamaica played. Simones know what he's doing...Apart from some little lapses, I would give the team a 9/10.
It's was obvious from watching that Jamaica wanted a draw. I remember one of the time they had the ball just outside the Canadidan 18yrd box and decided to pass the ball all the way back to the half line. Would have preferred they attacked but it seems they were following orders.
That artifical turf seem grueling. It does not make the players move as fluid as the grass surface and the ball on a simple pass gets very bouncy
Defense gets a A. Midfield A+ Fowards B+...seems they were just following the game plane
Jamaica will beat Mexico at home on Sept 6. I know Mexico is not Canada but the fact that we got a good coach and some very good players, I can see it happening now
