This was taken from the Leyton Orient Website.

PAUL BRUSH'S hopes of signing Donovan Ricketts have been dashed by the news that the Home Office have rejected the player's application for a work permit.
The Jamaican international goalkeeper has been on trial with the O's for the past three weeks and has impressed sufficiently for an application to be lodged, but it has been turned down as he has not played in the required amount of international games.
Ricketts, 24, has played in 13 of the Reggae Boyz last 19 games, just short of the 75 per cent usually required for a permit to be granted.
However, Brush has not given up hope of signing the giant shot-stopper and has confirmed that there will be an appeal against the decision.

"It's disappointing because Donovan has impressed us all during his time here, Brush said. "But it's not over yet because we'll appeal and that takes about a month so there may be something sorted in our favour by the start of next season."

this is very dissapointing news i think now J.F.F should start giving younger keepers more chances at goal, since they are more marketable.

it aint got nothing to do with that sunshine...it has to do with jamaicans accepting all the stupid excuses thrown at them...I bet u he will stay now that Leyton Orient has lodged an appeal...

Its natural for them to just blatantly turn U down bcoz U R Jamaican... But naturally Jamaicans love run off them mouth but dont know what they should really B fighting for...

75% international games is just a requirement...not a hard fast Rule....

Well again we see the JFF is responsible for things of this nature. Play the young players in these small tournament more often so they can become marketable(Shell Cup)and friendlies. Why send for foreigners when we have locals that can do the job well if not better. Those foreiners are already marketed! How about marketing our home grown? The foreiners are already in Europe so they are bein seen on a regular so its only fair and logical do market our homegrown to get to Europe.

This not to say not ever to have foreign born players on the reggae boyz team but only those who are EXCELLENT and are more than willing to give Blood, sweat and tears for Jamaica. They must exemplify "Shorty" Malcom in terms of committment. That should be the yardstick nothing LESS!!!!!!!!! We must stop accepting mediocrity to prevent mediocrity results from the Reggae Boyz.

This is development. Use our own youth now for the 2006 campaign, they will grow and gel together. Results now, are irrelevant but team is absolutely ESSENTIAL. Keep the pact together have at least 25-30 core players now from high school and the leagues in Jamaica and have several clinics with them per year like 6 with local coaches and invited forein coaches with each clinic having a specific emphasis eg. free kick or goal keeping. Russia has many out of work coaches invite them perodically to train forwars to shoot accurately from long range or shooting period. enough of the high storey goals in the 18 or 6 yds. box.
The advantage of this could see us having coaches visiting Jamaica and extending loans or contracting our young players to their country and club. What exposure we would have on that team in the next 4 yrs. Invite all nationalities of coaches to extend their expertise. Money do not have to be the bottom line but smooth diplomacy and good Jamaican hospitality with other perks will do the job. JT!!!!!!!!

Liverpool have just signed a young Czech player called Milan Baros who did not met this requirement. They appealed and got him.

The rule is not set in stone and can be bypassed unfortunately this is Donovan Ricketts, a Jamaican, signing for Leyton Orient.

Maybe a different nationality and/or club would have been successful.

Some people in power will say No...for saying NO sake.....

I suppose they are waiting to see if one really wants what one seeks that badly...

But I just think Jamaicans dont have a clue when U say APPEAL...

But ask them fi beg????????

What's the big fuss? There is a valid reason why he missed those 6 games of the 19, it was because he was injured.

As mentioned on another topic there are different requirements for under 23 players (JJ). Bolton have had massive problems obtaining work permits for players in the past, it's amazing what being in the Premiership can do, and more so again if you're Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal etc.
