Last night was a great night for Balck actors. This was long overdue after being overlooked for so many years. Halle Berry, the first African American woman to win an Oscar for "Best Actress".
Yet, the media is trying to brew up some controversy...saying that it was a make-up night after years of politics. Denzil, Halle & Sydney in one night. If this is true, then it goes to show that they were deliberately undermining Black talents for years. What a shame!

Last night was a great night for black actors indeed. Congratulations to Halle and Denzel. I hate to put a damper on the celebration but If I don't make the following comments then I would not be thinking:
1. It was obvious ( and Denzel knew it) that this was not his best work - playing a corrupt cop). What about 'The Hurricane' and 'Malcolm X' - to name just two?
2. Also, did Halle had to take off all her clothes and act passionate love making scenes in her role to get an oscar?
3. What an insult it would have been to Denzel if they had given the oscar to Will Smith instead?
4. The two African Americans beat (the favourites) two Austrialians (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe). Would they have won if Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe were Americans?

I've been getting quite pissed off at all the flack Denzel is taking. It's almost as though they want him to apologise for winning the award that he and many black actors (Fishbourne, Freeman, Sam Jackson, and others deserved). I think Halle got sympathy because of her life and abusive relationships so she had no controversy over winning. His role in Training Day was worthy of consideration so it wasn't a "freebie" They are on their way to righting the wrongs of the past and they better not believe it's over. It's all about affirmative action - JOHN Q in 2003!!!

I dont think Halle got a "feebie" either. remember she won an Emmey last year too, so she must be doing something right. Sidney also got a "freebie" for Lillies of the Field because they robbed him of the one he should have got for Defiant Ones the year before. Is so them things go, a lot of politics involved. Do you think that no black actor deserve it since Sidney won all those years ago? Sure they do, so its just mek up time now. Peace

With regards to point 4. - I think you could be totally right and NO would probably be the answer.
But they did, so notwithstanding all the other fall-out post awards - they deserve it - even if as Tman says "so its just mek up time now"
4. The two African Americans beat (the favourites) two Austrialians (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe). Would they have won if Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe were Americans?

Hi Neil, I would say what you just said very quietly.
Russell Crowe is a New Zealander not an Australian!!
Fierce rivalry there
But seriously, I have noticed the backlash in the British press.
Some are saying it is a fix, some are saying it is political, some are saying that it is just lip service.
But very few are saying that they deserved it.
And in Britain where there is hardly a decent role for a black actor, maybe they should loook at themselves too.

congratulations Halle berry and Denzel washington. yes congrat but deep down when black actors win these awards down the road i hope it's for roles and biographys of true black people such as dorothy dandridge, hurricane carter, malcolm x and ali the great, until then i guess it's pick for reasons.

I agree with you Jt! It is surprising that these same media did not realized that it had been fixed every year, when they were ignoring Black actors.
Now they all cry out when there are two Black winners. This is down right racism!! Didn't it appeared fixed every year, when there were two white winners?
