The Simoes "has Problems coaching professionals..." line don't hold any water. When we qualified for France we picked up steam after the addition of professional players and if memory serves me right, Simoes was the coach then. Also, Simoes coach professional players in Brazil so why would he now have a problem coaching professionals in Jamaica. King exclusion is a shock to me being that he was given the captain's armband recently. Still I am not going to waste anytime speculating why the coach decided to leave him out. I support Jamaica not any one player.

Brush, while I agree with you that the team is more than one player, Its hard for me to look at Marlon King as a player that does any sort of harm to Jamaica's football. If our players are to be judged based on their performance on the field, then there is absolutelty no reason why Marlon King should be ommited...he has been by far our most productive striker over the past 4 years, and in my book, he has always been a professional on the field of play (after all simoes himself made him captain some time ago). Omar Cummings is an unknown quntity...yet still the hope of qualifying for the world cup might rest squarly on his shoulders...
We still dont know why the likes of Jermain Johnson havent gotten any game time since simoes arrival...still dont know yet either why he is only just now caling Jermain Hue into camp.
It seems as if Simoes has a permanent appointment or he doesn't really care what happen after this campaign as long as his principles are in tact. The question is, which is more important, Rene's principles or Jamaica's qualification?
Good luck to him! He will need lots of it!
. . .I don't know if this is a discipline thing but it would be a fair guess that it is. I'm always amused by how people want to have it both ways-we complain that Jamaica's biggest problem is discipline and then when a coach takes a stand we wonder why he's putting his 'principles' above the team .
If his principles are in the best interest of the team & Jamaica, then that's fine with me. However, if his principles are just self-serving, then I have a problem with that...and by the smell of things it seems to be the latter.

professionals meaning established stars, back in 98 he had no such players in his squad the only players that had professional experience were his ub 40's who included simpson, burton, hall, sinclair, earl who were not established stars and according to his resume he has never coached a top flight team. If you can refute this then please do so.
the context of that qualification period is entirely different from the present, now we can field a entire squad of 25 with overseas based players, he has to learn to utilize that talent pool and not blabb shit about not having time to get things how he wants them, that is how international football operates around the world.
All national team coaches complain about not having time to coach their squads, etc, but they do not go out of their way to exclude their best players, they try to include them somehow (i say this collectively and not referring to a particular player)
The few who have tried drastically to change things around always fail at first in terms of results, Take Dunga and the current brazilian team for example, dunga who if u did not know was not a very flashy or briliant player in his time, he was a holding midfielder the defensive kind that liked to make tackles and run around, had no flair what so ever.
He started his coaching career with brazil on a high winning 4 out of 5 games against much weaker opposition, but when up against quality opponents he fails.
We can see where in these cases hard work does not make up for talent,it might give you a chance.
why are we speculating as to reason for his omission. its has not been comfirmed that he is axed. a wigan official stated that he didnt receive a call.(we still dont know if that is true) and if indeed he is axed lets give mr simoes a chance to explain why.

It is true that all this could be speculation. However you still need to ask who are our best strikers now if there is no King or Fuller on our squad. From what I have read so far I think most persons here are counting on our strikers opening up Canada's defense. I like Shelton because he can stretch defenses with his speed but he needs to work on his control. Cummings is still unknown to me so I can't say.

Exactly. He may have been, but why wear out you jaw if you not even sure. hahahahah

We have Deon Burton, who, according to reports, looked very good in camp and Shelton who can start if need be. Fuller is almost ready to go (supposed to play this weekend for Stoke I think), though he won't be in the lineup for the Canada game as far as I know.

Can you imagine if 12 years later Certain Burton turned it on again for the side. That would be wicked.
Still, I will leave it to Simoes, who has much more information that anyone on this forum.
I won't even question him bringing back old 30-minute Hue. If Hue is playing, he has my full support and best wishes...until him stop play, at which point my best wish will be that some body pull him out the game.

Against a team like Canada, Jermaine Johnson I think (yeah, me with all my coachign creds) would flourish.

I can't see how leaving your best player off the team is good for the team. Unless, he did something that was seriously detrimental to the success of the team. That we don't know. However, since selecting the team is the responsibility of the coach and he has not issued a statement or reason to date, despite public speculations - that in itself is self serving!

I believe King does not play the role given by Simoes. Simoes tells him he wants him to be more up top and central, but King insist on being wide and coming back deep.....hence.....
Also, I think it might have something to do with the Watford crew.
