This game will be very interesting considering both team do not have a technical director and Jamaica has not defeated Canada at any level in the past 10 years.

Hopefully Boxjuice and crew has purchased enough towels, hired a good bus driver with a map of Montreal and finalized the match fees before naming the squad. The interim/new TD will only have two weeks to name his squad with no local training camp for the past month. The JFF should use the CAC Games squad with at least 6 experienced senior players to roundout the squad.

Don't forget that we defeated Canada on our way to France 98(1-0) on a Burton goal.

Sorry,Jamatl, but can't agree with you on the composition of the team.Rebuiling Reggae Boyz football psyche which should be a critical part of object of turning aroud our football at this point cannot be entrusted to the losing CAC team.We need seasoned, tough, never-say-die, resilient players at this time with a minor blend of potentialy good young players. We must discard the philosophy of using international games as a means of displaying young, mostly non-talented players auditioning for international contracts. We need to have proven players to shoulder the immense load of turning around our football fortunes. The team, given the injuries to Gardner, Fuller and Davis should be:

Sawyers(goal)

Shavar Thomas, Marshall, Stewart, Reid(instead of Gardner)

Rodulph Austin, Khari Stephenson

Jason Euell Andy Williams(cap't)

Marlon King,Teofore Bennett or Shelton instead of Fuller.

Akeem Preistley shoud be given a short run in midfield.

Hart Announces Roster for Labour Day Friendly against Jamaica in Montreal

Stephen Hart
Ottawa, Ontario – Interim Canadian National Team head coach Stephen Hart has announced his 18-player roster for the Jamaica friendly on Monday, September 4 (Labour Day) at 4:00 p.m. in Montreal at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard.

The match marks the team’s first appearance in Montreal in over 11 years; the last being a 3:0 loss to Turkey on June 7, 1995.

This will be Hart’s first match in charge of the Canadian National Team since being named interim head coach on July 12, 2006. Hart has been Canada’s Under-17 head coach since December 2001.

Hart’s roster definitely has a Montreal connection as six players are either from the area or are current or past players of the Montreal Impact of the United Soccer League (USL). Current Impact players are goalkeeper Greg Sutton, and defenders Adam Braz, and Gabriel Gervais. Past Impact players are Patrice Bernier who is currently with Tromso in Norway and Sandro Grande playing with Molde also of Norway; both are from Montreal. Forward Olivier Occean, also a native of Montreal, was named 2006 player of the year in Norway while playing for Lillestrom.

Goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopolus (Tromso) will join Sutton on the roster.

Hart has called upon defenders Kevin McKenna (Energie Cottbus, Germany), Chris Pozniak (Haugesund, Norway), Marco Reda (Sogndal, Norway), Paul Stalteri (Tottenham, England), and Josh Simpson (Kaiserslauten, Germany) to join Braz and Gervais on the back line.

Rounding out the midfielders on the roster is Jim Brennan (unattached) who scored the first and eventual winning goal in the 2:0 win over Austria, Julian de Guzman (Deportivo La Coruna, Spain), Iain Hume (Leicester City, England), and Atiba Hutchinson (Copenhagen, Denmark).

Joining Occean up front are strikers Rob Friend (Heerenveen, Holland) and Tomasz Radzinski (Fulham, England).

Canada is currently undefeated since a very respectable 2-1 loss to Spain on September 3rd, 2005. They have not allowed a goal in their last three friendlies since November 16, 2005 with a 1:0 win over Luxembourg, a 0:0 draw with the United States on January 22nd, 2006 in San Diego, California, and most recently a 2:0 win over Austria on March 1st, 2006 in Vienna, Austria.

Against Jamaica, Canada’s is even after 11 encounters with five wins, five losses, and one draw, but the Canucks lead in goals 14-6. In their last encounter on September 2, 1999 in Toronto, Canada won the friendly 1-0.

“I think everyone is looking forward to this game,” said Hart “There has not been a senior national team men’s game in Montreal for many years and that just adds to the anticipation.”

Tickets are priced at $25.00 for the Grandstand seats (Reserved) and $15.00 for the Bleacher and End zones seats (General Admission) plus applicable taxes and are available through Admission at (514) 790-1245 or 1-800-361-4595, online at www.admission.com, or by calling the Montreal Impact ticket office at (514) 328-3668.

The Quebec Soccer Federation and its members are able to purchase General Admission tickets at a special rate of $10.00 by contacting the Quebec Soccer Federation at (450) 975-3355 ext. 3908.

Prior to the match, the squad will assemble in Ottawa for a three day training camp from August 29-31 prior to departing for Montreal where they will make their final preparations.

Joining Hart is Tony Fonseca as Assistant Coach, he is the Technical Director of the Vancouver Whitecaps and former Whitecaps head coach. He played for Benfica and was capped for Portugal.

Following the Labour Day clash, both teams will meat again in Kingston, Jamaica for a second match scheduled for October 8th.

An international friendly is currently being planned for in the fall of 2006 in Europe. Information regarding this match will be released when the details have been finalized.

The clubs will not release the overseas players unless the games are played on dates set aside for friendlies, which already faces stiff opposition from clubs. You need to develop good relationships with the clubs and not antagonize them.

Squad delay!
Brown stalled by absence of English players
Observer Reporter
Monday, August 28, 2006

BROWN ... we are just trying to get the best of what's available

Exactly one week before Jamaica face Canada in a friendly international in Montreal at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard, interim head coach Carl Brown is faced with his first major problem.

And it has forced a delay in the naming of a squad.
Brown, who was recently re-appointed head coach of the senior Reggae Boyz, has revealed that the unavailability of the nation's English-based players has delayed his selection process.

"We are just trying to get the best of what's available," Brown told the Observer last week.

"... most of the players who play in England are unavailable to us," added the coach, who is in his fifth stint as national coach.

"The fact that they will play (for their clubs) in England on September 2nd and then to get out of England and go to Canada to play a game on the 4th is really something that we do not want to do.

"So we really would not be able to get most of the players who are available to us in England right now and probably only a few of them would be able to play," Brown insisted.

As a result, Brown will have to look to local-based players, as well as those based outside of England.
"So it's about looking at the guys we have in Sweden and the players we have here at home," Brown said.

The countries have agreed to a two-game series, with the return game set for the National Stadium on October 8.
Still, Brown, the former Jamaica captain, is relishing the opportunity to try to reverse the recent bad results.

"We have to look at what is happening and what has happened to the football itself. We have not gotten any good results recently and the entire football fraternity is down and this has affected a lot of things along with the marketing ability of the JFF.

"So this Canada game is a game that we could start getting back some attention and some care from the private sector and the public, because they are also a very important part of the football.

"We have to get results the public wants..." he pointed out.
And though he is yet to announce his squad, the coach is hoping to hold his first training session tomorrow, and he is confident that he can produce a competitive team.

"I believe it is something that I am capable of doing. There are those players overseas, they will be match-ready. Then you have those here at home presently in their pre-season that might not be as match-ready, but I believe it's about our minds now and how we can get things settled and concentrated so when they get out there they can do their best," reasoned the coach.

"It is also important that we get a positive start for everybody, especially for the players who are so important in all of this, so that they can regain their confidence and get back that frame of mind where they can start believing in themselves again," he said.

But as Brown ponders his squad, his Canadian counterpart, Stephen Hart, who is also acting in an interim capacity, announced an 18-man squad last Wednesday.

Fulham striker and Canada's biggest star in the line-up Tomasz Radzinski is expected to play a key role in the friendly, which will be the 12th encounter between the countries' senior teams.

Six of the 18 selected players have or are playing in Montreal with current Montreal Impacts goalkeeper Greg Sutton, and defenders Adam Braz and Gabriel Gervais.

Past Impact players are Patrice Bernier and Sandro Grand, while forward Olivier Occean, also a native of Montreal, was named 2006 player of the year in Norway playing for Lillestrom.

Goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopolus will join Sutton on the roster. Other players included on the roster are defenders Kevin McKenna (Energie Cottbus, Germany), Chris Pozniak (Haugesund, Norway), Marco Reda (Sogndal, Norway), Paul Stalteri (Tottenham, England) and Josh Simpson (Kaiserslauten, Germany).

Rounding out the midfielders on the roster are Jim Brennan (unattached), Julian de Guzman (Deportivo La Coruna, Spain), Iain Hume (Leicester City, England), and Atiba Hutchinson (Copenhagen, Denmark).

Ten days ago, I knew this would happened......and Boxhill and Brown surprised, our players in the UK can be called up since this is a official FIFA match date, lack of organization and planning.

What is CB talking about! The only Jamaicans playing between now and Sept 4th in England is Goodison, Ricketts, and JJ. Where is Fuller, King, Burton, Langley, Francis, Stewpeas, Cambell-Ryce, and Euell. Davis and Gardner injured, so them have escuse.

Top Boyz may miss friendly
published: Monday | August 28, 2006

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

Interim coach Carl Brown

Eight days before the Reggae Boyz play their first match since being swamped 6-0 by England in a pre-World Cup friendly, the Jamaica Football Federation is still to finalise their squad.

The Reggae Boyz meet Canada in the first of a home and away friendly series on Monday, September 4, and according to recently installed interim coach Carl Brown it has been a difficult process getting the squad together. Brown said he is hopeful of having a squad released today.

"We are having a little problem in that a number of the players that we are trying to get will not come," Brown told The Gleaner yesterday. "Even locally we are having problems. Some of the players that we were hoping to have we understand are still in New York," he added.

No weekend games

With Monday, September 4 being a date recognised by FIFA for friendlies, players in the English Premiership and the Championship will not have any games on the weekends but teams playing in lower leagues will not have that luxury.

"Some of them who play in England will have a game on September 2. It makes no sense to have them play on the Saturday, then fly to Jamaica to fly to Canada on Sunday for the game. It makes no sense," explained Brown who added that players born in Jamaica would require a Canadian visa, which time would not allow.

Among those who are set to miss the match because of a Saturday game are goalkeeper and captain Donovan Ricketts, Jermaine Johnson and Jamal Campbell-Ryce. Ricardo Fuller and Damion Stewart who play in the Championship will make the trip while Claude Davis is injured.

Getting national representatives based in the United States to play in this game is not any easier.

"Tyrone Marshall has just come back from an injury so the club has asked us not select him. Andy Williams we have sent something off to but we have not had a response as yet." added Brown .

The story is no different with the Jamaicans based in Sweden. Luton Shelton was ruled out by a midweek injury while Jermaine Hue's club has, like Marshall's, requested that he not be invited. The other two, midfielder Khari Stephenson and forward Teofore Bennett are available, however.

Bwoy CB like the punishment, there are so many issues that the duncewell and the no confidence boxface them left unresolved. What about the match fee issue? Is this the reason why so many players are not available?

The JFF, Boxhill and CB fool, fool bad. Why are they arranging a training camp in Jamaica? Fly all the players directing to Canada for pre-match preparations, believe their are at least 3 non-stop flight from London and Manchester to Toronto. If most of the players are in New York, then link up in New York since 90% of our ballas have a visa to travel to USA since the 2005 Gold Cup and the English-born players can use their British passports to enter. But it is a holiday weekend in the USA and Canada so most flights will be full, and they still have not discussed match fees. Foolish and imcompetence of the highest degree. Dis should have been resolved one month before the match, dem can apply for 30 visas and plane tickets 30 days in advance and then cancel it if they do not use them and get dem money back.

Boxhill...from Boxjuice to Bagjuice; One man's quest to destroy Jamaica's football program.

Oh no not another six love please! Not from Canada too. Bagjuice sure know how fi embrass Jamaica...then him a give CB weave basket fi carry water. Sending the guys to lose will just further harm the program. Sending the youngers out there to play against professionals will just hurt their confidence and set them back. Wi goose cook if we can't pull a decent team together to at least put up a spirited fight.

CB send something to Andy...what about King? or Bibi? I did not think Shelton was that badly hurt...he wanted to play and most of all he is eager to win.

Based on who I see available, I would go with this starting 11, and would play a 5-3-2 formation.

Euell - sitting the bench at Charlton looking for a transfer before Wed.

King - He is in the JFF doghouse

Francis - Plays at Watford and has not play for Jamaica in more than 3 years

Williams - announced international retirement last year.

I like the talent of the back six(6), but we do not know how to play the 5-3-2 based on the past 4 matches.
