2011 GOLD CUP Lack of Support by fans, where we deh???

Hello Forumities!! The ReggaeBoyz in my opinion have their strongest, deepest, most experienced team ever for the 2011 Gold Cup. Being on the sidelines to watch the games our support as 12th man is very important. Countries like Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras get great support from their fans and the ReggaeBoyz should also.

I'd like to suggest that we coordinate our activities as far as who is attending what matches at the 2011 Gold Cup. We can support the ReggaeBoyz players as a group and when they score or win the players can come celebrate with us where we are sitting. We can carry flags and banners and digital camera's to take and post pictures during and after games. Having the team know that we are behind them 100% will give them that extra incentive and something to play for. This might be the difference between squeezing through to the next round or just steamrolling teams all the way to the semi-finals or finals.

The Boyz play their first three group matches on:
1. Monday June 6th in Carson, CA at the Home Depot Center
2. Friday June 10th in Miami, FL at the FIU Stadium
3. Monday June 13th at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ

If they progress the quarter-finals are on:
1. Saturday June 18th in New Meadowlands Stadium in NJ, or
2. Sunday June 19th at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

The Semi-Finals would be on:
1. Wednesday June 22nd at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas

The Gold Cup Finals are scheduled for:
1. Saturday June 25th at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA

Maybe we can exchange information who's going to what game and also information on where people will be sitting. We have large Jamaican populations in South Florida and the New York/New Jersey area. While there are smaller pockets of Jamaicans living in the State of California and also in Texas. We should get the word out about the Gold Cup games at the local Jamaican resturants, Grocery Stores, Clubs, Barber Shops, whatever that we all visit frequently.

The members of this forum and site that will attend games should make an effort to meet up with each other at the games although I can see issues like TruTrini attempting to stab me with a dinner fork or several others attempting to do the same to him (just kidding!). Let's all go out, round up the troops and show our support for the 2011 ReggaeBoyz Gold Cup team. This will be our best ever and we have an excellent chance of getting all the way to the semi-finals and we'll see what happens from there. THEY NEED OUR SUPPORT, we are the 12th Man (or Woman for Princess)!!

Re: 2011 GOLD CUP Forum Support for the ReggaeBoyz..12th Man!!

By the way Moderators I only started this 2nd Gold Cup thread so we can communicate as far as ur planned attendance and support for the Gold Cup games. The original thread is deep and everyone should continue to post to that thread for other Gold Cup updates and comments. This new thread is specifically for the attendance and support aspects of things.

As far as me (Tennisman), I'll be attending the Jamaica vs Grenada game at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA on Monday June 6th. Don't have tickets yet but will post when I get them. I'll also be attending the game on Friday June 10th in Miami, FL. There is a group of 4 of us attending that game. We are sitting in Section 113, Row 2 for that game. We'll have Jamaican flags and we decked out in ReggaeBoyz shirts for that game. We hope to meet some of you at that game as well as the Game in Carson, CA on June 6th.

Ok so we have ReggaeBoyz Supporters in 3 sections of the NJ/NY game vs Honduras on Monday June 13th. Section 101, 128 and Section 222. That's where we should all shoot to sit.

We have ReggaeBoyz supporters in section 113 of the game in Miami, FL at FIU vs Guatemala on Friay June 10th.

Now we have supporters in section 131 of the game in Carson, CA at Home Depot Center vs Greneda on Monday June 6th

Th support will be great. We live together and we die together as one.

I hear you, but I am sure with the ingenuity of Jacans they can easily turn "Ring the alarm" into a sports specific song.

Susbtitute "another sound is dying" for the name of team the 'boyz are playing. For ex: 'Ring the alarm T&T is dying". That will work, and then everytime him talk bout his sound you substitute that with "the 'boyz".

No need fi play the whole song. Just remix part of it and loop it. Not a sport anthem, but that beat will surely pump up the fans. You can't hear that beat and sit pon you hands.

Personally I rather the version by Tenor by himself, you can do more with it, particularly since it include the part weh him seh "sweet reggae music gone pon the attack". Subtitute reggae music for reggaeboyz.

If the JFF legitimized the forums as affiliates and worked with them on promotional ideas, then maybe the forumites would do some more work to canvass supporters ahead of games, purchase JFF products, and just support the team in their ventures. Noticed how the Boyz came over to 225 and saluted us after the game.

That is true Lannyd. The first indication that this was big was when we had a long wait at the toll booth, and everyone was looking at us in our car. That was when the party started, I pulled out my flag and started waving it. Since I was the driving force behind the wheel of my car the men that travelled with me took it and waved to passersby who were waving their flag too. When we got off the exit into the town, a local gentleman asked me what was transpiring in the area, so I explained. He also saw the pattern of traffic for a weekday and wondered about it.
Well, needless to say it did not hit me until I arrived at the arena and saw that enormous crowd of people from Honduras, I knew that I had to cheer our Boyz on to the finish. I was shouting, waving my flag, talking up my mouth; anything to keep the momentum going. I really enjoyed the game, and I wished more Jamaicans were out to support.
We have to get to the JFF to get the word out when we have games in our area where there are so many of us here. Also, who has these official looking shirts to sell? Post it on the website, start a company, do something. We have to do better than this.
So many of us have migrated to this region, and the support did not reflect that. But let it be that we make it to the Finals (yes I said it), we will be all proud and boasting like as though we gave support to the team.
Let us tell our friends to tell a friend, and let's get the word out about how good our Boyz are doing, and get the support they so deserve for them.

The Lack of Support For Boyz

Ithes, I wanted to speak directly to the lack of support for the boyz last night, I know there has been many comments about this on the forum but I want to take the discussion to another level. It concerns me that I was walking into the Red Bulls stadium yesterday and was drowned out by the Honduras team's supporters. I would have expected our Jamaicans especially in the New York and surrounding areas to be out in force. During the game the Honduran noises made the the Jamaicans cheers sound like whispers. This was very, very disappointing for me. I guess my aim is at solutions, not to just talk but I want to know how we can really mobile more Jamaican support for our own, not just football but as a nation of people I think we dont support our own enough. I see other nations can be fanatic and prideful about their country, why cant we do that as well? We tend to do a lot of talking and critising but I would like to see us take a more active approach in patronizing our own. If I may, I would like to initiate a discussion on how we can do a better job as Jamaicans of supporting our sports, music, food products, or anything Jamaican that is worthy of support. I believe that's where the root of the problem is and it showed in the lack of support for our boyz last night. By the way congrats to the team, they made me proud last night, I was happy to be in attendance and see such a commendable performance by the boyz. All those who were not there, you missed an impressive and exciting match in my opinion.....

Bruce, dont expect too much response on this. Certain forumites are nothing buy keyboard jockeys and have pure talk. I suggest that for the next game you buy a bunch of tickets and sell them to your friends and family and make sure they all wear a yellow shirt. Outside the stadium you buy a whistle and a flag. I posted about the family package being offered for last night game and there was no akcnowledgement or follow up question. A just suh wi stay...but dont worry, once we start winning the waggonists will return in their full glory. This forum has been around for ever and I dont recall a coordinated effort...wait...I remember Princess tried a thing or two back in the day....maybe Ms. C can fill that role. Bwoy, when the Honduran unfurl dem big ole flag mi just shake mi head.

Mi breda

I feel your pain but u hafi understand and accept one basic thing.

Most Jamaicans don't give a flying crap about football; only us hardcore foundation rock of the Jamaican football community, at home and abroad really gives a shit and follows Jamaican football and footballers.

Hondurans, on the other hand, live for football, as most Central and South Americans do; they worship and follow their national teams and carry real love and passion for their nations football.

Half my family is Honduran and if you noticed the love and respect between the supporters and players, in spite of a hard-fought game; that is the connection that Honduras and Jamaica has, even when its red-hot competition time.

Don't beat up too hard on our Jamaican brethren, mi breda.

I would estimate there were about 20,000 or so people in a stadium that holds 25,000 and about 1000 were in Jamaica colours. Not even exaggerating. I remember in '97 WCQ against the USA, with the infamous "hand ball" by Pepe outside the box, at RFK stadium that holds over 50,000 we out numbered the Americans and the Stadium did ram. I guess people only showed up because we were winning games at the time.

yeah well blame the jamaican media in america and abroad. They are not promoting how well they are doing. Instead they rather promote how kartel has a new bleaching product out and everyone gets hype for that.

The Jamaican media in america didnt support shit for the reggae boyz...they only care when they are winning for wc qualifiers. lets be real.

I felt embarassed last night that the game was in practically in NY. FLOODED with Jamaicans and the whole stadium was packed with hondurans. But do remember the hispanics have national tv networks like univision for example promoting the shit out of gold cup. Maybe the jamaican radio networks in america need to step up?????

Re: 2011 GOLD CUP Lack of Support by fans, where we deh???

lol... Bruce... That one too easy....

I'd say... even if I were in USA I wouldn't go to a game.... unless it was free ticket... Why..?? Coz mi nuh have nuh spare cash fi guh spend on a sport that doesn't even value the supporter..

All supporter's clubs have an affiliation to there football federation. Jamaican fans are only wanted when certain people want money. I feel the JFF needs to treat the fans with a little better decorum and more respect... Maybe there were a lot more fans than you thought but maybe bcoz they cant but a team jersey. There is not really a supporters club or any form of coordination.. Jamaicans just buy a ticket and turn up...

As I said, the days of the reggeaboyz seem to be disappearing.. There is not much communication with the fans... We dont have the reggeaboyz anymore we have teams constructed and formatted and contracted to the JFF who pulls all the strings and treats the fans disingenuously with misleading and silly stories.

Pepes will still big up Jamaica and want Jamaica to do good but if Jpanfrin is suggesting Mexico will make it to the finals with a big crowd Jamaicans will not see their team in the finals and nuh waan guh...

If the national team keep up the performances the crowds will start to come back regardless but that doesn't hide the fact that Jamaican's dont want to support their own. It's mainly bcoz of who is co-ordinating and running that sport. Maybe they should take a leaf out of the athletics campaign... Athletics thrives and includes the fans.. Football acts as if we owe dem something...

Fact is we have no marketing/advertising in the area simple as that. Not one of my Jamaican friends knew Gold Cup was going on right now. and only one went to Redbull Arena after being informed by me that we were playing well in the cup and will be in jersey on the 13th. The rest think we wont do a thing so they consider it a waste of time. Its been years since we had a successful team and people who are not following closely like us forumites have no idea of our current progress. The Latin countries have multiple TV channels on which Copa Oro is advertised daily and broadcasted. We Jamaicans nuh watch Galavision , Telemundo and the likes so dem no know what a gwan. My nephew lives in Jersey and had no idea we were playing in the area much less for what reason.

As for myself I visit Redbull arena atleast 5 games for the season. I could not reach this game due to other obligations like a Job i must attend. I live all the way in Far Rockway NY so it would take me eons to get to redbull Arena and i'd never make it back on time to reach my Job at 4:30 Am. Those who dont live in NY must know that this area is pretty big and its not easy to travel to Jersey from certain places so because a man have NY in his location does not mean Redbull Arena is in close reach.

So what about the local radio Jamaican/Caribbean radio stations where we could've gotten a campaign out to millions of listeners. That don't make sense! I guarantee you we're going to be outnumbered by 20 to 0.1 by the US.

Well... Here is the Plan B, make a BIGGEST Tail Gate Party and get JAMICA on the every TV news! 'How to have a great Tail Gate Party" suggested that we should go about 6 hours before the game.

Japan and Jamaica ready to joust

It will be the turn of outsiders Japan and Jamaica to take centre-stage in the second Group B encounter, and while both will be keen to find their feet at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Mexico 2011, building confidence before tackling section favourites France and Argentina will be high on the agenda.

The game
Japan-Jamaica, Saturday 18 June, Monterrey, 18.00 (local time)

The stakes
Knocked out of their continental championships at the semi-final stage by Korea DPR and USA respectively, neither Japan nor Jamaica could claim to have been imperious en route to these finals in Mexico. The two sides will therefore be anxious to raise belief levels as they meet for the first time in the competition, leaving this opening match already looking critical for both teams.

Indeed, with France and Argentina starting out as heavy favourites in the group, taking maximum points in this game will be vital. As Reggae Boyz coach Wendell Downswell put it: “We’re only thinking about our match against Japan. As for France and Argentina, we’ll see about them later.” Defeat is likely to prove calamitous even at this early stage, with neither Les Bleuets nor La Albiceleste likely to make things easy, but the victors will move on with genuine hopes of reaching the knockout phase – or return there in Japan’s case, the Samurai Blue having emerged from the group stage once before, on home soil in 1993.

The stat
10 – The number of years since Jamaica graced their last FIFA final tournament, the FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina 2001. The Reggae Boyz also conceded ten goals in their only previous appearance in this competition, failing to net any of their own.

The words
"We’re focusing all our desire and energy on this match. If we can start well, we’ll be off and running. After that, who knows what could happen?” Wendell Downswell, Jamaica coach.

"We’re hoping to go all the way to the final. For that to happen, the players need to believe in themselves and make the absolute most of this experience. If they can do that, anything becomes possible,” Hirofumi Yoshitake, Japan coach.

I'm afraid you're completely right Tripeous!!! Everyone wants to do their own thing, even on here. Two weeks ago, I posted a thread in regards to the Miami game. Not even a HANDFUL of people responded about tickets. You would've thought maybe we could all link up as a real supporters club and who knows this damn thing could even grow. I'm almost sure there are a few of us on here who actually made it to the Miami game but nothing. I guess its typical 'mek mi do mi own ting' mentality which will get us nowhere. Absolutely nowhere.

To actually back up my statements, we tend to excel in individual sports rather than teamwork thats why I'm afraid we're going nowhere in general unless its track and field :(. Sad but true.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, and I believe the vibes on here against doing anything is the reason. A definite undercurrent of inaction exists in this forum.

That is precisely why people act on their own!

Time and time again, you'll see someone come on here, make a suggestion about doing something or the other, and in a flash he or she is attacked from all angles...as if they were trying to steal the forum.

I think part of (if not the main) reason for this is because of the irrational hatred of the JFF and Horace Burrell by some people on here. They see any attempt by anyone to do anything, no matter how constructive, as being potentially beneficial to the JFF, so they rail against it. From my vantage point, all that does is puts us in a state of constant enmity with the JFF.

Contrary to what some might think, no one gains anything from that.

We rant against their leadership day in, day out and they ignore us, instead of partnering with us. Consequently, the support that we should be the catalyst of providing for the team, suffers.

This forum has been around long enough for us to be making a much larger impact than we are. And in spite of who might think otherwise, we are not!

When you go to a ReggaeBoyz game at a stadium in the Tri-State Area (NY, New Jersey, Connecticut) and don't see the ites, green and gold, you know it.

The Hondurans have better organizational acumen that we do? Please!

The amazing thing is that whatever we do, does not have to be monumental in scope, but its effect most certainly will be.

Each forumite can contribute a dollar (more if they can). Buy a huge flag or a banner. Buy blocks of tickets. Sit together and make lots of noise. In fact, even if we make no noise, our very presence there as a group will have an impact...

There's lots we can do, but the folks with the negative vibes rule the roost. They've sapped our will to do anything collectively...so we act individually.

This DC excursion has really set me back $600 and counting. I hope the last minute ticket that I scooped up from stubhub.com is worth its weight in gold.
Flying out of Hartford tomorrow to see the new samba style ball that the boyz has been playing.

Re: 2011 GOLD CUP Lack of Support by fans, where we deh???

@ Jagga, Carver, etc. I have a suggestion. Thereggaeboyz.com is a supporters' club isn't it? Lets not just make it an online supporters' club only but at the games as well.
My suggestion is a t-shirt design showing the logo of the website supporting JA. We go to the games together (some will at some time and others will at other times-we all can't make the same trip every time around but we can at best do our best).

You start small then it begins to grow. How will this grow? Well, in addition to my above suggestion I would say 1 out of 30 people will see this logo on the back of your t-shirt where as on the front you'll see maybe something that says 'WE SUPPORT OUR BOYZ'. Or maybe come up with a different message. Bottom line is traffic-buildup on the site plus AWARENESS. Remember 1 out of 30 is a lot if 2000 supporters see this.

I would buy this shirt in a heartbeat by the way. The question who else on here would?

Re: 2011 GOLD CUP Lack of Support by fans, where we deh???

the problem is simply that the JFF has not reached out to its fanbase at home or abroad. i think it's fair to say that there are potentially more Jamaicans 1st and 2nd generation living in the US, Canada and UK than the island. all english speaking countries. what has the JFF done to reach out to us?

they have been lagging in media. no youtube, no FB, no Twitter. and a $hit website where you can't even get a player pool to find out who is on what club let alone a live score.

i mean seriously, we don't have the telemundo and galavision and spanish language newspapers like the Latin's have. we have no jamaican media presence outside of JA

Re: 2011 GOLD CUP Lack of Support by fans, where we deh???

it's almost as if Jamaicans at home don't know how to use the internet. for a country that's influenced and brainwashed by the US you would think thy would understand how to use the internet, with all of it's free outlets, to reach the fans.

there's no reason why we shouldnt be able to garner support outside of the jamaican bloodline like a brasil, holland, ghana etc.

jamaicans are the most influental culture on this earth, pound for pound, and the fact that the JFF can't even capitalize on that is beyond me.

look how long it took for me to get the Kappa shirt. i wrote soccer.com and worldsoccershop month after month. the people are there, you just have to touch them

for christs sake. go to the Penn Relays. Jamaicans come to Philly by the bus loads for a few sprints year after year.

we don't have the television media. but the home networks should be reaching out letting us know what's going on through the internet. CVM, JBC and whoever should be producing web and podcasts, JFF should be doing the same.

we live in the Information Age. how hard is it to snatch up a couple interns from UWI???? you don't even have to pay them!

my favorite part about all this as they finally decided to update their website (JFF) but during their largest tournament? what kind of idiots are these? that should have been ready long ago

Re: 2011 GOLD CUP Lack of Support by fans, where we deh???

I think we need a truth commission up in this piece.

Why would I spend money on promotion if I am guaranteed to end up with a net loss from the promotion? Of what value is the promotion?

I look at Spanish stations and I don't see this great promotion the ites assume exist, and you can forget about hearing from the FAs. It is basically word of mouth. I got the worse tickets in the house for the CRican game because like everyone else living in the USA I am very busy. I am sure I heard CRica was playing in New Jersey, but somehow it registered that they were playing in Chicago which was out of the question as far as me attending. It wasn't until a co-worker who is from Honduras informed me that she had her tickets and was taking 20 family members that my mind refocused because I knew she wasn't that fanatical to be taking 20 family member to Chicago. When she reminded me that they will be in Jersey I got on my puta and order my tickets. I could've said to hell with them, the CRican FA didn't send me a personal alert in my in-box or mailed me a promotional brochure.

I relate that to point out that this notion that it is great promotion drawing out supporters of the other countries is a myth.

It is not as if you guys are Mexico, the USA or Canada who don't have to qualify for the GC. JA had to qualify so the word was already out that JA was participating in the GC. It is basically a matter of deciding that you will support the team/country. Jacans are not busier or have less discretionary cash than any other group in the USA.

People can't be that disengage from their homeland that they need a special promotion about every little thing, can they? If people are that disengage is any amount of promotion really going to help?

A promotional campaign from the JFF designed for each individual with a wake up alarm and a pick up time would be nice, but in the context of what we are talking about it shouldn't be needed and that is what the conversation should be focused on, that such campaign should not be needed.

Pele the JFF is just inept, they are thinking about Madison Avenue first world advertising. The Jff should haved linked up with the man on the street, place flyers in the pattie shops, restuarants, barber shops, produce shops and have spots on the Caribbean radio stations.

You're all wasting your breaths her trying to compare our support T&F with Football. You can talk until u blue in the face but Jamaica has a T&F culture not football one. Please dont compare Penn Relays with a GC match and blame JFF Marketing blah blah blah...

I hear peeps crying bout cant find Jamaican Jersey. last yr someone posted the link to the site and jumped right away and bought my Jersey. Right now i have to sets of Jerseys and here ites who live on the Forum cant find a Jamaican Jersey. If you really love something or somebody will go the extra mile for them it called seek and yee shall find.

I was talking Bredren pon the ends a few days before the USA vs Hon game. He mentioned that he was going to the Game i told i'm sorry i could not make it. I told how i've gone to the games after WC98 when we had fallen on lean times. Bredren says to me i was foolish to waste my Money to go watch a loosing team and he wasn't going to do that. Basically this Bredern said he didn't mind spending Money to see them play now because they're winning. I'm pretty sure there ia lot more peeps who feel that way. I wish you all lots of luck...
